Noise from transmission when turning sharp
Is it normal for STi to have noise in the transmission when turning sharp corners like in a parking lot? The AWD seems to be binding up. I tried setting the diff lock all the way forward, midway and all the way back. Still does it. It only happens on sharp turns when going slow. Only been driving it a few days so far and seems to be good otherwise. It is a 1995 Japanese WRX-RA Sti.

that maybe the limited slip differential clutches acting up. I'm not familiar with the subaru limited slip differentials but on gm posi's you need to add the gm limited slip friction modifier into the differential oil.
not sure if it is the same with subaru but they tell gm posi owners to drive in several figure 8 patterns in an empty parking lot after changing gear oil
I would first try driving figure 8 patterns with the diff set to unlock to see if it will help get oil to the clutchs. then I would try just changing the oil and doing the figure 8 's then I would see if subaru has an additive for the limited slips.
I'm no subaru expert I'm not even sure if the subaru diff uses clutches but my gm posi was doing the same noise and I changed the fluid with the gm additive and did a few figure 8's and the noise went away

I just got back from a subaru dealership here and the guy thinks it might be the central diff going bad. Costs about $2000 to fix but he recomends going to another place that deals with STi more often to double check. If central diff is going bad does anyone know of any aftermarket suppliers that might have a better deal or any tricks to get some more life out of it?
