My first experience isn't a good one.....

hey everyone...
good news, it turned out not to be anything serious. what happened was when they were putting the new short block assembly in they forgot to tighten a hose clamp of some sort and that's what was causing the coolant leak. they were very sorry and apologized many times.
hopefully knock on wood, no more serious problems.

you went ahead and bought a car that was in an accident and had the check engine light blazing! now you want subaru to fix it for free. why didn't you have the car apraised by a good repair shop 1st? the warranty for the repair is only for the previous owner. you are not covered. spend the money to get the estimate for the repairs. then find out what repairs were approved by the insurance co. you may have a case for fraud against the previous owner. or at least take him to court to get the repair cost. hold the 20% in escrow intill the issue is settled.
it's a hard lesson to learn. but even private sellers can emulate a USED CAR SALESPERSON don't trust carfax or similar services ever! yes call subaru and see if they can at least help with the check engine lite problem or any other smog related issues tha may not be cased by the collision. i hvave a feeling you will never be stuck in a situation like this again. hope every thing is resolved with a minimum amount of pain for you.
