Hey Guys, I've been following this thread and have been surprized by the constant mention of Mom and Dad, and how they fit into the equation of owning and insuring a Suby. Do what you're parents probably did. Get a good job, save your money. Buy a car you can afford. I'm 52 years old. I saved for over a year for a down payment. Now I have payments I can afford. My insurance is still too high, but that's part of owning a very fast car. Can you imagine a Porche, Vette or Viper owner looking at the i-club with all our childish crap. How embarrassing! We look like a bunch of spoiled brats. Man Up! Collins

i think the guy's insurance company is trying to hose him. v8 sports cars dont have that high a premium in my area (southeast).

I'd suggest you get another insurance company.

AAA offers discounts to certain "professionals" based upon what college degree you hold. It is based on data they have that educated people may be less likely to drive unsafe cars at unsafe speeds (e.g. most doctors do not drive twenty year old chevies with bald tires).
AAA is not the cheapest insurance, but they are certainly in the lower half for the average guy with the average car. They do not like high performance cars, no insurance company does. But my experience is that they are a lot less likely to cancel you for a ticket or an accident than many of the lower priced insurance companies.
It is unfortunate, but insurance is a fact of owning a car. Remember the old saying, "speed costs money. how fast do you want to go?" Insurance is just part of the equation.
By the way, downshift, if you have uninsured motorist insurance and you can id the uninsured motorist who hit you, there is no deductible and your insurance company will go after the guy (at least that is how the auto club works). Good luck with the fix!
