major problem guys

i want to get a wrx, my parents are willing to buy it for me, i was...THIS close to getting one tonight, but guess what. You can't drive without insurance right? so we called our insurance agent and we did a over the phone quote for how my insurance would be. AWD, turbo, WRX = 2500 for 6 months....so i was like damn...that's 5,000 a year...i relay the price to my dad while she holds on the phone, i come back only to find out it's not 2,500 per 6 months....it's 2500 per THREE MONTHS....that's a grand total of 10,000 A YEAR...which is ALMOST HALF THE PRICE OF THE FREAKING CAR.This is AAA in california, and i'm only 18 years old. Does anyone have anyt suggestions on how i might be able to get my insurance costs down? I live in the bay area, clean record, good student (above 3.0) and is in desperate need of a WRX...

i think it might be the area too, i live in the bay area of cali, and there are ricers out here 24/7. Those 'fixed' up civics with just an exhaust and some 15 inch rims and maybe lowered with tint. Those 16 year olds drive so crazy, we always have accidnets in front of my dad's store. crazy kids, making it worst for everyone

My Dad used to work for an insurance company, and he's explained some of the 'why' in their rates.

The short story is:
They're betting that an 18 year old person (usually an unmarried male) driving a turbo-charged sports car will destroy it in 2 years or less. Charging you 1/2 the cost of the car each year is their way of making sure that they lose little or nothing if/when the car is wrecked beyond recognition.

So, to avoid paying for the car twice ( the dealer and the insurance company) for the car, follow Enigma's advice. When I was 18 that's what I did to keep from paying an arm and a leg for insurance.

okay, we are insured (my parents) have AAA insurance, and they have a policy where i cannot be under the same policy as my parents since i do not have a 3 year drivers experience. Are all the other companies like that too? that's the only reason i'm getting charged 10,000 a year, because i cannot be registered under my parents policy, and therefore i will have to be the primary driver, on the wrx, (turbocharged sports sedan). Can i just go with another compnay for the wrx, and have my parents register as the primary driver while i'm the secondary, and pay for that premium and i drive it 24/7? i need help guys, parents are willing to buy the car, i just need to find a way around insurance right now. BTW i need full coverage, because parents think i'm still young for just liablity and plus it's a new car. Thanks

My experience with insurance... consider the following:

.I live in the Bay area where all the ricers are at.
-In a family plan, provided by insurance company called Mercury.
-I am 18.
-Mom drives an '03 Dodge Van
-Dad drives an '02 Celica GT-S 6 speed, and full body performance kit.
-I drive an '03 WRX Sedan.
-No tickets, 1 minor accident in an MK1 where I was backed into.

In conclusion, a little less than $3000 per 6 months.

I am under my dad's name, but my dad drives an '02 Celica. So even if I switch under a different car, my insurance still beats up on me.

So I'm stuck with that, and I think Triple AAA, like most people, is too expensive.

Wow. I have AAA and i'm only paying like 1600 a YEAR (full coverage) for my Impreza... Then again its not a WRX nor is it a new car, but I am only 23 and live in Cali... 10,000 a year is just insane for anything next to a exotic luxury brand car.
