Loud engine noise
I have a 97 2.2 Impreza and for about a month now I've been hearing this.....loud spinning or rotating noise coming from the engine when I'm drving. A month ago, it wasn't that loud, now even with my stereo on, I can hear it.
The noise doesn't come on when I start the engine or stop and go. I usually start hearing it at around 20mph and it gets really loud at highway speeds.
My car has about 100k miles now and I've recently change my timing belt, tranny fluid and rotated my tires. I thought that one of those things was causing the noise but its still happening now and today, the "check engine" light just came on. So I have no clue of what's wrong. Any clues? Thanks.

What he means is the Check Engine Light (CEL). There's an OBDII diagnostic port right below the driver side dash. Looks like a computer connector. But in order to read the CEL codes, you must have a scan tool and the only people that can read it is your dealer for about $80, or a local auto parts store for free. Good luck on this one.
On your engine noise, pop the hood while your engine is running to verify that the noise is coming from the engine bay itself, not from the wheel bearing. If it does, chances are it could be a pulley bearing going out from one of the accesories (alternator, P/S pump, A/C compressor or tensioner pulleys). However, from the way your explaining things, you might have a wheel bearing problem cause it occurs while your driving. An engine noise underneath the hood will be constant with the engine running. I hope this help and good luck on the CEL code.

I was reading from this post: https://www.i-club.com/forums/drivetrain-67/bad-noise-front-end-5704/
and that sounded exactly what my problem is. So you were right on imporacer. Does anyone know how much wheel bearings repair cost?
