Just bought an '03 WRX...
It has just over 21k miles on it.
What kind of oil would you experienced WRX owners recommend? As well as the other fluids too.
Thank you very much!

Me and my '03 WRX are doing just fine at 51K miles with Castrol GTX 5W-30. I use the money I save to buy Sierra Nevada Pale Ale instead of Coors.

If you can find it (or afford it) go with Redline or Motul - they are both ester based synthetic oils (class V) and very high quality. AMSoil and Royal purple are PAO synthetic oils (Class IV) and are very good oils as well. Castrol Syntec and now Mobil 1 are Class III oils and although they say they are synthetic, those in the oil fractionation industry diasgree. I've found that the class V oils are the most expensive, followed by class IV and then class III. I would stick with either class V or IV if you can afford it, otherwise go with Mobil 1 over Castrol.
In actuality the differences between the synthetic oils is minor compared to to dino oil, but oil is the life blood of your car so....you make the choice. Stick with 5w30 with whatever brand you go with.

It all depends on how you use the car, how often you change oil and filters and do other maintenance. Subaru recommends 5W-30 engine oil, service rated SJ: conventional or synthetic oil. Conventional or synthetic, the recommended change interval is the same.
I would certainly use a good synthetic if I was autocrossing, racing or driving so aggressively that a quart or more of my conventional oil was boiling off before the change interval. It's a better oil for these applications. But, that's not the way I drive. I use my cars as drivers and drive in a "spirited" as they call it, way.
I used conventional oil in my last car, a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo. This was a 2-liter four-banger with an intercooled turbo. I got 260K miles off of it in 13 years and it was still running good when I sold it. Castrol GTX was used with a 3-4K mile change interval.
Calling conventional oil "dino oil" is a sales pitch. WTF does it matter that conventional oil is a hydrocarbon that originated from prehistoric plant life? You're not worried that you are wrapping your wheels with resins from tropical tree sap, are you?

The term "dino oil" is a slang term designated for conventional oil fractionated from natural resources. There is no gimic here. And there is no negative conitation. The difference between using regular oil and synthetic oil (for me) is about 30 dollars per oil change = $120 per year. No one says that using synthetic negates the frequent changes required by Subaru, and no one says that using conventional oil will granade an engine - but 120 dollars extra a year is peace of mind I can afford. I'll trim the hundred dollars somewhere else over the period of a year.

I hear you on the "peace of mind" issue. But I've been there with some high mileage cars and can rely of my personal experience for the peace of mind. Don't blame you for paying extra to cover your bases. Let's see, $120 is ten 12-bottle cases of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, or better if purchased on sale...
