30K evo

I'd love to get my hands on the guy that's willing to buy a 15,000 mile EVO for $30K. I have a bridge to sell him.

my co-worker just got a 04 sti from a middle age man with only 1100 miles on it for only 26k. Guy got it as a collector car and never drove it.

I am a young person in a Cobra and that equals a target for cops.
I think you will find all of the above to be true for an STi as well.

You might want to start thinking stealth. Legacy GT sedan + a couple of easy mods = 300HP stealth mobile. You still get a fast, powerful, capable Subaru but the cops aren't automatically pulling you over on sight.

Hey buddy keep these things in mind

1) Your cobra gets better mileage than sti will
2) You will get pulled over/picked on more than in cobra

9.5??

you seriously get 9.5 MPG on average? I think I've had track sessions where I've gotten better than that..... Seriously though, the kind of clutch dropping burnout behavior that is so much fun in RWD sportscars (that results in 10 MPG....) is amazingly unbelievably bad for the transmission of AWD cars (since the force has nowhere to go but into the transmission, espeically with sticky tires). Guys that drive STi's like that on a regular basis end up with transmission warranty claims, and a lot of the time, those claims are denied by SOA. That's not to say that you can't drive 'em hard, or launch once in a while. I'm just speaking from what I see trying to help you make the best decision. STi's generally get high teens for mileage on average.

I know for a fact the cobra gets better, especially when you drive it nicely. I've been getting between 15-17 on my sti. This is driving it pretty nice. I can see 19 out of it but that's the most. My 5.0 with h/c/i+full bolt ons use to get better mileage than my sti, no joke. But the sti is amazingly fun, if you like twisties it's awesome. You can corner so fast in it, you just want to smash everywhere. Cobra's are really fast, I was about to buy one but honestly it didn't feel as fast as sti even tho it's faster. The only reason i didn't get the cobra was the horrible sales women but more than that I love AWD, I got a wrx and had the 5.0 but now I have an sti and I can't ditch AWD, it's too much fun. Cobra w/ full exhaust/pulley/gears etc. is a helluv a fast car.

Cobra's are AWESOME!!! Definetly worth considering if you live in an area that can tolerate 2WD for a full year. If you have a daily driver, it's a toss up.

that kinda behavior has resulted in a few new clutches and new brakes and rear tires every 2500 miles or so.

i know the cobras SHOULD get better, somehtign is wrong and ford doesnt want to admit it. As the car is right now it is totally stock and i told the service manager (who i know) to drive my car around for a whole day and he had to fill up at the end of the day because it wet throguh so much gas. Ford is pissing me off. I went there with a list of 15 things that needed to get fixed and they said it may be done in a month.
