Downpipe warranty concerns
im looking to get a catless downpipe on my car, but im worried about voiding warranties and passing emissions. Have any of you had any problems with this? Also i already just take off some of my parts, like Unichip piggyback, unichip boost control module and cold air intake before i go in for service, i was wondering if the downpipe would be very hard to just remove before going in for inspection and service?
Thanks

In my state (Utah), a catless downpipe won't pass emission inspections. But I want to make sure that I don't have any warranty problems, so I think I'll either be waiting til my warranty period gets closer to ending or maybe I'll buy an STi downpipe that will look closer to the stock WRX downpipe.

The downpipe bolts right onto the turbo then to the midpipe, which goes to the rear section. In maryland all we have to do to pass emission is have our cars "talk" to the DMV's computer. This is only on ob2 cars (97 and newer). Also a company called MRT makes a down pipe that is catless, but looks like it has a cat on it. Just some ideas.

I've read that there is no difference between the STi downpipe and the WRX downpipe.

there isn't a difference between the USDM sti downpipe and the wrx downpipe. the JDM v7 STi downpipe has 1 less cat in it, the piping is all the same diameter, and the jdm uses a different midpipe.

yes subaru will void you warrenties if you change the down pipe to a catless one...it is changing the preformance of the engine. Unless your local dealer is really cool about it..I'd call them up and ask them what voids it and ask them if the down pipe will void it. But what ever you do don't admit to anything done to your car.

*sigh* technically speaking subaru has the right to void a portion of a warranty if the "aftermarket" parts directly affected it. keep in mind that factory warranties cover the items that were installed at the factory.
