Cost of ownership of STi?
Im in the market for an STi, but Im curious as to what kind of costs there are associated with the upkeep of the car. Such as tire replacement and other stuff which I cannot do in a regular garage.

I dont have one yet but will soon...u can expect costs to be on the higher side...tires are 17", so they will run u about $150 a piece, if not, more...turbo-charged vehicles take more gas too, so u will be pumping more often...i beleive the 04 STi gets something like 26 mpg highway and 18 mpg on streets...the brakes are brembo upgrades and last i heard, pads will run you around $600 for all four, installed....basically, this is a high end vehicle and expect to pay for it in terms of maintenance as well...oh yea, if u get an 04 STi, expect to put some $$$ into getting a stereo too, cuz it doesnt come with one...

but to me its worth it i guess. yes the tires are expensive but tire rack is a life saver. brembo pads are expensive period. and if u need to change them i recommend other brands which are better and cheaper.(hawk is good)
putting in a cd player is mandatory. although being that the nature of the car is noisy. i wouldn't recommend a high line type of cd player. just something basic.

Well you want to buy the STi for its performance not gas mileage. I get around 300 mile per gallon depend on your driving. It I live in colorado and it cost about 25-28 dollars for a tank of gas. And the tires on the STi I think last at least 10,000 mile. So you will have go buy tires. and you want some good tire for a car like that. My insurance went up 50 buck a month.

i also get about 300 miles to the tank although i do run it down to e before refueling ! i havent checked my gas mileage lately but when i did i was getting 20-22 per gallon with combined city and highway driving which is pretty darn good for 300 hp all wheel drive! i believe that if you rotate the tires as reccomended you can squeeze 25 to 30k out of them. i have almost 13 k on mine and still have alot of tread left although i dont run mine hard al lthe time since i got my first ticket a month ago. he he! im also 42 so i might be driving more like a middle age man than a young buck! silverfox1
