Cold clutch judder

2002 WRX 35,700+/- miles!!! I went to the NHTSA website (see below). Printed a copy of the TSB (technical service bulletin) for cold clutch judder and a service history (even the oil changes I performed at home).

I arranged a service appt., forwarded the info and waited a day. They recreated the problem that I described (how often does that happen?!? of course it was in the single digit deg. F) waited a week for parts to arrive and took it in for a new clutch assembly...under warranty. I was very up front, described the whens, hows and conditions under which the judder happened. Guess it depends on whether or not they can reproduce the conditions spelled out in the TSB.

Question

Curious, any Canadians here that had this done or anyone know if it also applies to Canadian models?
I certainly have the "shudder" every now & then when starting off in 1st.

My WRX is not too bad, but some of my friends cars have really violent shudders.

I have had 2xMR2, a BMW, Escort, RX-7 and have driven a bunch of other manual tx cars. None of them had clutch shudder apart from the RX-7 right before it failed. It is not normal in most cars.

HEH! How did I miss this wonderful post!

A nine-year-old girl called -- she wants her tantrum back, she needs it for later tonight when her younger sister flushes Dolly down the toilet.

First, I must express dismay that there are people who are so rude to people who are telling what they have experienced. I know full well that some people have trouble with shudder, usually in cold weather, but also at other times. I have owned and driven stick shift cars since I started driving, about 55 (yes, fifty-five) years ago. Some developed shudder, such as a '63 Dodge Dart wagon, when a throw out bearing went. Another, a '40 (yes, forty) Packard 110 needed a small engagement to get the car rolling 1 or 2 mph, and then just release the pedal and hit the gas. (I never did try to fix that one). Now, my '02 WRX shudders, 50% of the time from 1st, and 10% when going into 2nd. It's a defect, and my dealer said he will replace it, because he knows about the Sub "judder" issue, and has done some already. I have under 20K miles on mine, and it's going for a replacement when I can spare it for at least a week.
So, let us accept that there is a problem, some have it, some don't, and that's that.
