i had a different smell, i found out that a plastic bag got caught underneath my exhaust.

Did it melt to the exhaust? My truck did a ghost drive down the court and ran over a garbage can. Something from the garbage can melted onto the exhaust and it smelled really bad!

I have 29K on my 2002 wagon, I recently started to get the smell... and I'm quite worried.
