98 Impreza Outback Jumping out of gear
Hello,
I am new here and new to Subaru's.I just picked up my first Impreza a 1998 Outback with 160,000miles.
The previous owner just had the clutch replaced before I picked it up.
My problem is that as I was driving home the trans kept popping out of fourth gear(5spd).I could feel what I would consider excessive trans movement threw the shifter. If I kept a little pressure on the shifter it would stay in fourth. It didnt make any bad noises or hang up, to me seemed like a linkage issue. Not knowing, here I am.
This all happened three hours ago and I dont have a manual yet......I paid less than trade in so I understand I would be fixing things as I went.
When they replaced the clutch they pulled the motor. I was told that was an easier way to go if no lift was available. They also replaced the timing belt, plugs, oil seals while it was out.Seems to run very strong other than the shifter issue. The car wasnt registered at the time so it wasnt road tested more than around the parking lot.
Any direction???Seems like a fun car the 100 miles that I have driven it.
Thank You in advance.
Allan
Update; I am going to try and find a updated trans mount and install that, see how it is after that.
It was also mentioned something about what looks like bolts on the side of the trans that hold in what sounds like a detent, springs and ***** that maybe worn??I think that will be my next move if the mount doesnt do it.
Any toughts????
