2005 WRX transmission breaks down b4 500miles!??!?

IMHO the guy doesn't sound like the smartest crayon in the box, I'd put my money on user error and the fact that the test car has like 200 miles on it when he bought it. I tested an 04 wagon with 120 miles and was pretty harsh on it

Dumping the clutch. For example; your at a stop, your in 1st with the clutch pedal to the floor, you rev to 5k, then you just slide your foot off to one side quickly(sidesteping), then your tranny goes boom.

Tranny should not go boom. That is a manufactures fault. think about mechanical engineering and metal stress levels. If it was designed correctly in the first place under hard driving (think of what this car is marketed as) the tranny should not break. I used to Drag race my 1970 Plymouth Duster 340 4 speed with 7" slicks a lot. Only had one tranny problem. I broke a brass shift fork. I replaced both forks with steel ones. Took me about 1 hour to change them out, I drove the car well over 240,000 miles beat the crap out of it. I would snap throttle cables and break U joints about ever 18 months but the tranny was strong enough.
They don't build them like they used to.

Last time i checked a 1970 Duster is not AWD. It has a lot to do with it. Twice the stress. Plus that probably had a Muncie 4 speed and the 5mt is no Muncie. If the WRX were FWD or RWD there would probably be very little trouble.

Sorry I'm still not convinced. Subaru rallied this car for years in the 1990's they should have figured out how to build a bullet proof tranny. These are supposed to be highly trained engineers. They should know better. Remember what this car is marketed as, did they really think everbody was going to drive them like grandma.
I'm on my 3rd Legacy GT wagon. The last one had tranny problems from about 50,000 miles. My Honda's still have tranny problems, I still love them, I have a 92 and a 93 Civic Si both have broken shift forks. Honda put cast Aluminum shift forks in them. Were having a new design made at a local machine shop for my three tranny's hopefully our hog out's will be an improvement.

Even if there is driver error, it depends on what kinda error, the transmission should take some errors, unlike mine, one miss and scrap going into 4th gear, everybody grinds sometimes by accident, and my syncro got messed up, one grind, yes that's driver error I admit it, but the tranny should take some of the beating also before falling apart. I've done way more grinding (because I learned on it) on my mom's Nissan Xterra 5spd which now has 73,000 miles on it and no problems. some WRX tranny's are good but there is a bad batch out there which makes these transmissions = glass basically.
My advice is yeah the WRX is a fun and awesome car, be weary about the tranny though, you may take care of it but it may not take care of you. Be ready to fight the dealership on a claim to fix the tranny when it goes bad. That's why I'm trading in for a Honda S2000 about the same price as my car is worth, because honda has backed up it's cars with recalls and other stuff, even transmissions.
edit: One more thing, there was a man with his daughter in my town that bought a WRX where the tranny broke in the 500 mile range also, they made the dealership buy the car back.

Hi guys I know this is a little off topic but I have a question and I would greatly appreciate any response. I was involved in an accident and I was at a stop and my I was in 1st gear when it happened. At the point of impact my foot slipped off the clutch and I was pushed several ft forward by the car that hit me. I was wondering if my tranny sustained any damages at all. I told my state farm about my concerns but my adjuster is trying to tell me that there was probably no damages. So if you guys can help me out.
