I only notice it when I start on an incline because I usually over-rev and slip the clutch a lot. I power-shift a lot and I don't notice it.
I think some people (like me) are lucky and didn't get a particularly bad clutch. Others sound like it makes the smell even when they shift perfectly. I don't know what the deal is.

^^ yes i did. one problem that i see with the legacy GT is that its assembled here in the u.s.(indiana). now i know thats a subjective statement, but there is some fact behind what i'm saying.
prior to the legacy's release here in hawaii, we had them sitting in our distributor waiting for "certain parts" to come in. the question i posed was this. why ship the cars out of the plant if the car is not ready to deliver. what i'm thinking is that the new legacy was such a new platform that maybe.. and i stress..maybe there was room for human error when it came to assembly... we had a couple that were waiting for the SRS systems to be "replaced". . . .
the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety noted the faulty SRS when they did their crash tests...but in my year and a half with Subaru... i have not had one problem reported to which you state... but then again i only sold 8 legacy GT's.
hopefully your problem is diagnosed properly and fixed.

From LegacyGT forum:
The problem is the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) that was put in to prevent high RPM, slide your foot off the clutch, street racer type activities that have been blowing too many WRX trannys and clutches.
I'm suprised the dealership wasn't aware of this. I've got 14k on my 05 Legacy GT. I no longer have clutch stink. I think it stopped around 8-10k.
