2002 AUTOMATIC WRX - 100k Miles - How long will it last & what damages to EXPECT?
Hi all,
Yes I know its not as common, and possibly even ludicrous that I even have an automatic WRX cause most of you have manuals, but I live and work in the city so it makes stop and go traffic less chaotic to me after work when driving.
But anyways, my 2002 wrx just hit 100k miles and I'm a little worried as to what problems will come about SOON and how much I'll have to spend to fix it. For one thing, I haven't done my 90k tune up YET and I've been told that at 100k, its time to change the timing belt, spark plugs. I've also been told that the water pump needs to be changed?
What else needs to be done and how much will it cost?
On avg how many miles can I drive before incurring more problems in the future? And what other issues may occur?
What consists in a regular 90k-100k tune up for a WRX?
Is it even worth it to spend so much to fix it than to buy a newer non-turbo car? I'm considering getting a newer RS or 2.5i, a Civic or just some non-turbo car so I wont have to worry abot fickling with it for now.
Thanks for the help!

Getting the tune up is kind of a must... especially since you are about a year or so behind on that.
I know there are some other people on here who know what the tune up consists of and what repairs you should be expecting in the future.
As for the question of if it is worth it to do the repairs... most definitely. A properly maintained car will last way longer than you think. So there is no reason to be afraid of the 100k mile mark...

^^^ W3RD!! I think he's a staff member on here and IIRC, he's at 250,000 + miles not to long ago. So to answer your question, yes they do last long as long as you take care of her i.e. up to par with maintainence and fluid changes, you wont be going to SUBARU HEAVEN!! I remember the one guys forester hit like 310,000 miles but no sure if its true or not.
Also according to Jared from PDX tuning, at 100k, thats when the SUBARU engines come alive per say.

Recommended maintenance schedules for Subaru vehicles sold in U.S. Link at bottom of that page has chart showing services which should be performed at recommended intervals.
