2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
Hello everyone, I am new to the boards. I am looking to buy a 2K 'prez 2.5RS sedan in January. I am currently a Honda person, having owned a 91 Civic sedan that ran 13.5s. My car is getting up in age, and a while back I had to sell a lot of my performance stuff and return the car basically to stock to cover some emergency stuff. Well, the car is getting up in miles, so I feel kind of bad wanting to sink a lot of money into it again, and so now I have turned my eyes to the car I mentioned. I just wanted to see what any 2.5RS owners have to say about their cars? Likes? Dislikes? Mods? Swaps?
I know a little about Subaru's, but I couldn't tell you what engine codes are in what model cars and whatnot, while with Hondas I could tell you just about everything.
I have been browsing this board for several weeks now, and I really like it. It is a nice break from certain forums *cough* AF *cough* where every thread becomes a flame war.

buying a scooby
Hey man, glad that you're looking at buying a scooby. Being a former Honda guy (Prelude VTEC) I know where you are coming from and I think the scooby is a great choice. Like my user name eludes to, my car is a 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS and I like it very much. I'm not sure where exactly you live, but here in snow country where I live, the AWD is a must! I'm also paying half as much for car insurance on a two year old car as I was on my 94 honda. Subarus have very good crash test results, all wheel drive and ABS. Those factors taken together help to lower insurance costs. I've always been a manual tranny supporter, but with my scooby, I bought it used and the price was right. I do enjoy not having to screw with the clutch and shifting and the automatic does a good job in the snow. I've been told that the auto has a slight advantage in the snow due to electronic wheel slip sensors rather than a viscous (oil) device. I hope I've been a help in you're scooby purchase and I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks a lot for the info! I live in Idaho, so the winters can get bad, but I never had a problem in my Honda as long as I had studded tires on.
I am glad that I am buying my Scooby right now because a lot of the leases for the 2000 Models will be out in january because many were 4 year leases, so there will be a lot in the region to choose from, and I know a dealer who can get cars shipped from anywhere, so we'll have no problem finding what I want.

Nice, I'm busy making payments on the car, does not leave much for extras like separate winter/summer wheels. I just run Toyo Proxes FZ 4 all seasons on mine with the stock 16 inch six spoke aluminum wheels. All silver looks nice! AWD actually outperforms my work truck, a Jeep Cherokee even in 4 wheel drive.

dude, i was just like oyu, i had an 88 prelude running 13s, i just bought a 98 2.5rs, best choice i ever made, i got a 04 sti engine waiting for it along with an 02 wrx front end conversion, and im from ct, where we have snow, best experience ever, now my subaru has me running around to all my friends who are current honda owners saying "F#%k a Honda"

It's not that I'm against Honda's or anything dude. Honda still builds a great engine and car, I just found my prelude to be impractical for what I needed. For what I need, the Subaru fits the bill perfectly, and I could not be happier with my choice of puchase. I still own the 94 prelude, so if any one is interested or knows someone who may be, just PM me, or post to this site... thanks.

the way i stumbled across my car was very very lucky incident....
The main reason i wanted it at first, was for the aggressive look, awd, very reliable, pretty new, roomy for a subcompact sedan.. yeah when i bought it , i didn't know squat, but it was a good choice tho especially cuz jersey's getting worse winters now... and i'm unofficial ride ***** at school, so the 4drs were worth it.
it drives pretty nicely, yeah people (including myself) will complain about the understeer but with a 125$ sway bar u can easily fix that.
hm i'd have to complain about small things, it seemed like subaru was kinda lazy with the interior, I guess I'm too used to riding around in luxury cars all the time. the stock sound system sucks. I also wish it came stock with trunk light + glove compartment light.... sad.
but i guess subaru was cutting some corners to build an affordable and robust car.
