08 Subaru STI pricing _OUTRAGEOUS_
I cannot belive how outrageously high Subaru has gone with their pricing.
The 08 STI, w/ BBS wheels has an invoice price that is $6,200 higher than the 04' STI! A 6k dollar hike in invoice (keep in mind not MSRP even) in 4 years?
I find this disgusting, even BMW doesn't hike prices like that.
WRX/STI has always been about performance/value.
I mean come on, with an invoice price of $35,600, these things are going to be selling for over 40k, and thats BEFORE dealer markup!
Give me a break, you can buy a frigging porsche, 335 coupe, G37, Lexus IS-F, S4, Vette, tons of other cars for that price. It's pretty obvious juding by their stupid "PLEDGE NOW" fraternity crap that they think they can hike the price as high as they want, because people will pay it.
I dunno about you, but unlike my 03 WRX days, I don't really think I'd feel much like giving other Suby drivers a THUMBS UP! while driving, after getting raped on price like that. Might as well tape your friggin wallet to your windsheild with a sign that says "IM A SUCKER" instead.
I for one won't be buying one of thesse, no matter how appealing it was to sit in the grey one at Capitol. I don't care if its a full redesign with equal performance/better streetability.
We've had two WRXs, and two STIs in my family, and at these prices, they will be the last.
Time to find another performance bargain car, because these things are now cash cows for the man.

lol this thread gave me a good laugh . Little steamed? Yep, the price is definately up there, but like you said, people will pay it. You could always wait until one is being sold with really low miles, at least a couple k down from what it would have been new.

wow, they are going for that much now? However, it is important to look at how much of that increase was due to an increase in production cost, or is it 100% extra profit? Regardless of the reasoning, it's more than I'd pay

Its more than a fair price compared to other dealerships and what your getting, but how can you justify raising the price that much?
I think a 135i is in my future instead of the STi

fair price? Are you joking? Lets not forget that these are still technically "econoboxes". No way am I paying 40+ grand for a car without a sunroof.
For that price I can get a BMW that has chilled beverage holders, with more TQ and more WHP.
Subaru is offically SMOKING CRACK.
And its a shame, because the car is drool worthy.

I don't think the type of customers looking to buy an STi is looking for a sunroof.
I for one would rather NOT have one, have no use for it plus added weight. It's a purpose rally car for the streets and it's a no compromise car.
If you are comparing the 135i or G37 to it, then you are comparing apples to oranges.
The BMW is a nice quick little car and so is the G37 sedan, but they will both start near or over 40K plus options.
Neither will give you awd and the ability to tune/modify/tweek little bitty parts like the suby and if you did tweek will probably cost you an arm & a leg.
IMHO, the dollar has weaken and the 35k MSRP for a base STi is on par with the 33k-34k of the 04's.
Gas in 04 wasn't 3.57+ either and minimum wage was 6.75 not 7.25 in santa clara atleast, so people are making more money.
If you factor in inflation, the car actually is bargain.

He said 08 STi = $35K invoice, not MSRP
04 STi = 32K MSRP
That is a rather large difference. The 04 STi invoice was somewhere around $28K-$29K, meaning it's a $6K-$7K jump in invoice price alone.
So if the OP's information is accurate it's going to hurt in the wallet.

The 06-07 Invoice is 30500 so a 4500 increase is alot, but it has better suspension, wider, lower, better turbo
Business is business and if it sells at 35K invoice it will stay there, if sales go down, you will see sales upon sales to move them.

Look,
I dunno about you guys, but I don't exactly have a low paying job, and let me tell you, my salary has kept up with inflation just fine. But a 6200 invoice price increase? Not MSRP, not MSRP + markup, no options, but INVOICE? I'd need to get paid 8% more every single year to keep up with that.
I'm sorry, but that is like a 25% markup in 4 years. Even chevrolet hasn't hiked the Corvette prices that high since the 50s. It took them years to establish a name that is worth 40k.
I'm sorry but I don't think its worth it. The current STI doesn't even perform as well as the 07, and the interior is still low rent compared to other cars out there.
I wish Subaru would come to their senses. I was dying to own one of these, but I'm just not willing to throw my wallet into the fireplace.

I will not buy one of these just because the markup and you know that Subaru will put a "fee" on it so it will be going for around 42500, plus tax, tag, and title. I would rather save a little and get an M3 or something.
I just looked at the invoice prices for the last few years and you are right. To jump that much is outrageous, unless it comes with some crazy features.

The Northwest has an allotment of 146 STI's for 2008 for the entire region (all the dealers combined). They have pre-sold over 100 of them already. I don't think SOA is worried about the sales of the new STI. On the other hand, our sales of the 2008 WRX are pretty bad.
~ If I was SOA, I would be worried more about the price increase on these models! Ours are just collecting dust ~

Wait 'til late next year when SUBARU hasn't sold enough and absolutely HAS to get rid of them for a lower price to get rid of them. I'm pretty confident that there will be quite a few new '08's still available at the beginning of '09.

The 135i (which I am also interested in) is going to see HUGE price gouging and markup as well; a friend of mine said the dealer he talked to is floored by the demand for the car, gets 10-15 calls a day about it and already has a dozen or so presold (which his dealership never does, they wrote a new policy for it!).
