X-country Road Trip!!!

Well, i'm in the military, and transfering duty stations. I'm currently in Charleston, SC and I'll be moving to Seattle, WA around the middle of this month. The military will be moving all my household goods, but i've gotta move my car myself. So, looks like my WRX and I (oh, and my wife too) are gonna have quite a road trip ahead of us. It'll be about 3k miles that i'll be putting on my car. Never driven this far before. Any tips? This is the route i'll be taking. To anybody who lives somewhat near this route, how's the weather up there? I expect to run into some snow but good thing for AWD! Anyhow, wish me luck!

I had a friend drive from Portland to NY and back in under two weeks......in a rental car. As for seattle dont expect snow lol, its a little chilly with occasional showers. The AWD is great for going up steep wet roads though. My only advice is get lots of new music for those times that are dangerously boring you have something new to interest you. Enjoy the drive and enjoy Seattle

Wow that's a long drive, try to have some fun on it, stop and sight see some stuff on the way I don't know what but i'm sure there's something. I wish you luck at your new duty station.

Well if you are trying to stretch gas mileage as far as possible setting the cruise around 75mph delivers the best mpg that I've seen. When I kept an averge speed between 70 and 75 on one trip I got about 30mpg. Another time I had my cruise set over 80 and only got 25mpg. However, holding that speed through the long flat plains of the central USA might be hard. I know it would be for me.

Not to get off topic but where were you stationed in Charleston dizzy? Also how did you like it? I will be stationed there for 4 years after I graduate from college next spring. Good luck in Seattle.

Yeah, to kill the time, i'm thinkin about buying a cheap dvd player. You know, the ones that come with a little 5" monitor. I had an idea of buying one from best buy or some place like that, and then when i arrive at Seattle, returning it to get my money back. Heh, kinda shady, but legal. It's like i'm renting it. Anybody ever do something like that?

Iceman, i was stationed at NPTU chas, which is on the Naval Weapons Station. Oh, i'm in the Navy by the way, for all of you that care. I hate it here in charleston. But that's just me. I'm alergic to the bugs, and i hate how hot it gets in the summers. Great golf though, if you're into that. A lot of people like it here, maybe you will too. I'm from Seattle originally, so i'm pretty happy to be goin back there.

LOL charleston isn't too bad. i had fun there when i jumped into the AFB with the 82nd in 2001 IIRC for the 82nd Association Anyway, have fun in seattle..it rains 364 days a year but you'll have a LOT more fun. When you're off work you won't see a bunch of "high and tight" haircuts everywhere. a small little drive and you're in the middle of the city, surrounded by civilians without a military care in the world!

Have you thought about taking a train?? Might cost a bit but then you could enjoy the scenery and not put the extra 3K miles on your car.. Look into it!!

Chris..

P.S. you would also save alot of money on gas!!

Ok, so maybe i'm retarded at web searching. I couldn't find anything on shipping by train. Seems like that would be a lot of money, doesn't it?

I just swapped out my aftermarket rims with the stockers for the trip. Figured i'd put the 3k miles on them instead of the rims.
