Wrx Invoice Sale
Hi guys my name is josh claypool i'm a Subaru sales rep at Cumberland Valley Motors. Located in Mechanicsburg, Pa. A lover of all cars. If I could i'd own my own wrx. But for now i have to settle for a 1974 BMW 2002tii. I talk to my boss about getting the people who love the wrx's deals on them. In the Chicago area WRX's are selling for $1000 UNDER invoice, if you know how to negociate, and easily at $500 UNDER invoice if you don't.
I've already had a dealer offer me a $500 over invoice on a new 2004 WRX.
The WRX is a great car but the sales have slowed and now the deals have come into play to move these cars. I'm guessing I'll be able to get a 2004 WRX for around $250 above invoice easily. So, the 03's better be a LOT cheaper to move them.

Ok what the invoice price of the car is, is the price the dealership buys the car at from the manufactuer. Dingbats how can you say that you'll pass that offer up unless you get 1000 under invoice? Maybe what you guys mean is the msrp instead of the invoice of the car. Because first of all why would a dealership give a 1000 dollars away? The benifits are not mutual when trying to deal that way. Unless your pals with someone who can make a decision to just allow the dealership to lose 1000 dollars i say go for it. But for most of us we dont have that privilage. And when a dealership says they will sell the car at invoice take it up. The dealership, if bought at invoice, will not profit from the purchase. So what about the mutual benifits? The dealership may want to sell the cars at invoice most likely because of stock overflow; the dealership needs to make room for new arrivals. I know, they do this all the time. And if they dont sell the car to some customer then they will just auction it off somewhere. But with at least two people outnumbering my view on the invoice thing, how about explaining to me how you can get a dealership to sell less than their invoice; besides the example i gave.

Dealers most definitely will benefit from selling a car at Invoice and even below invoice. Dealers get holdbacks above and beyond the price of the invoice. Most of the holdbacks are a percentage of the MSRP price not the invoice. There are also factory-to-dealer incentive payments as well as other allowances that all reduce the cost to the dealer.
If invoice is $10,000 and msrp is 13,000. Most manufactures give a kick back of some sort. Lets say 2.5%. Now the dealer will eventually get $325 dollars back from their purchase price of $10,000. There are also advertising incentives and other dealer incentives.
So calling everyone here a Dingbat is a little harsh. Find out all the facts before you talk about things you have no clue about.

There are such things as dealer holdbacks, dealer incentives, manufacturer to dealer incentives. Currently, there is a $500 manufacturer to dealer incentive. That means, that whatever price the dealer is selling at, he/she will get $500 towards that sale. Also, currently, in the Chicago market there is an ADDITIONAL $500 due to the autoshow which comes again from the manufacturer but this time to the buyer.
"invoice" is the price the dealer would pay. However, the real price the dealer actually pays is based on other factors as well such as those incentives. Thus, the real invoice price can be lower. There are also discounts to dealers who meet certain sales goals as they then can get discounts on the cars they purchase.
As I said, currently, if I were in a market where the autoshow is I wouldn't pay more than $1000 UNDER invoice and no more than $500 under invoice in other markets. But, knowing the autoshow discount is available, I would still shoot the sales gay a $1000 under offer.

you know guys I was just trying to sell you a car at a good price I don't know who would sell there car for 1000 under invoice. But you also have to understand i make my living by selling cars and of corse the dealers will make alittle money but we are in a buisness and if we want to stay in buisness we have to make money. asking to make 500 on a car that cost me 25,000 isn't to bad you make more profit margine on a case of paper than you make on a car. so if your interested in the car please Email me or call

It is a strange wording isn't it?
As far as making money.
The $500 discount going on right now is a dealer incentive. Which means, the dealer may choose to keep this money coming from the manufacturer or he/she may choose to lower the price of the vehicle so as to get a buyer to buy. The $500 lowers the dealers cost which effectively puts the invoice $500 LOWER than before the incentive. Selling AT invoice the dealer makes money from holdback. It ain't much but it's better than taking a loss on the finance charge from letting the vehicle sit on the lot too long.
The additional $500 from the auto show comes from Subaru and is given to customers as a rebate. It is regional. And since the show was just in Chicago we have the additoinal $500 from Subaru for the customer incentive which costs the dealer NOTHING, it's from Subaru.
So, as you can see, if a dealer can sell at invoice and make some money, he/she can still sell at $1000 UNDER invoice and make the same money.
If the dealer sells at only $500 under, then he/she actually makes MORE money by selling at only $500 under invoice and keeping the manufactuer to dealer incentive.
As far as the interest rates go, that I'm not positive on. That is what the sales manager told me. He said I could combine the auto show incentive with the low finance rates. Remember, the dealer incentive is an amount the dealer does not have to disclose or give the customer as that is his money to use as enticement or profit.

I wonder what the reason for the slowed sales are... I am guessing its a combonation of the demographic the car is going after and the economy. They seem to be marketing the car to young males age 20ish to 30ish. A lot of people in that area that can afford the car are probably in the high tech industry which obviously is slow and laying people off...
