Wrecked My Rex!
Hello all,
Since the move and remodelled website (have been here in a bit) my old username has been deleted. I was benjaminb. I have some bad news. I wrecked my rex Sunday afternoon. Some lady in a Toyota T100 decided she wanted to turn left in front of me at a stop light. Not as bad as the post below, but my car is now toast. I figured I would come here for some sympathy as everyone I know tells me to look on the bright side... I'm OK. I was alone and I am OK. Whiplash and a banged up shin. I will send anyone a picture who will post it for me so you can all share in my pain. Hopefully the insurance Co. will total it and give me a good sized check so I can get another one. Anyone have any experience with USAA or a wreck please send some info my way.
Thank You,
Hurtin in RI.

Here's an idea!
Ok if they total it, take the check and see If you can then buy the car back from them. I totaled a gsr Integra they cut me check for 12,000 then they said I could buy it back totaled for 1,200. Fixed it for 3,000 sold it for 9,000 and made out like a bandit! It helps to know the garage your getting the estimate at too, might save you the cost on your deductible, have the estimate bumped up to cover your deductible. I love insurance

Car Info: 02 WRX wagon=dead; rollin' in a Craptastic Camry!
It's *******s like JAYFRESSH which make it nearly impossible to get paid on a legitimate claim. Padding a repair estimate is just plain wrong, and a lot of body shops don't need any more encouragement to be crooks. I don't like insurance companies any more than the next guy, but these kinds of anecdotes are the reason honest people get screwed. Insurance companies have reason to believe everybody is trying to scam them.
Good luck with getting a new car, Jacobsen. I hope the lady in the truck has to take the bus for a while.

Thanks for the info... What was the blue book on your car at that time? Just wondering because it would suck to get 12,000 for a 2002 WRX with 16,000 miles on it. Kelly Blue Book on it is $23,050.
Thanks for the idea, but I don't want to make money on this, I just want a WRX that drives straight. This one fixed will never be the same... I hope they total it and I get a check big enough to get a new one. I have USAA insurance. The guy is supposed to look at it this afternoon, or in the morning

Firend of mine had a 2000 wrangler with 10K miles on it. It got hit. They decided to fix it. They didn't know haow much damage there really was, and when it was all over they paid $18,000 to fix a $22,000 vehicle. Needless to say he sold it a week later.

Don't feel bad, our '02 WRX wgn (2400 miles) got nailed like yours, only from the rear. Repair est. came in @ $15k. Statefarm wanted to fix it - I said okay but only if they have the Feds crash test it again after the repairs to certify the repair - two weeks later, they said "come get your check." If you have access to alternative transportation, time is on your side (in CA, they have to settle the auto repair part within 30 days). No complaints with Statefarm - both insur. co's paid within $800 of the price I paid out the door which ain't bad 'cause I had the car for 4-1/2 months. Good luck to you.

Dealer
Go to Pilgrim Subaru in Rte. 2 North Kingston RI.
Talk to Carlos or Matt. I have bought 5 Subies from them they are great. The service manager is also cool. Did you finance the car through USAA? That guarantees they will pay at at least the amount ypu owe. Good Luck!!!

I've been hearing a lot about USAA..Can someone tell me more about it..? Is it just car insurance or added insurance or what? Is it worth lookign into? I have Allstate but am always looking for lower/better rates and coverage.
specially if I am getting an STi.

Not sure which dealer I will end up at. I went to Pilgrim and they wouldn't give me any estimate. They just said they would match anyone elses. That means they don't really want me as a customer if you ask me. They should at least give me a ballpark of what they usually sell their cars for. I went to Bald Hill and they gave me a number, and then Anchor gave me a lower number by $700. I let all the dealers know I had or was going to get other numbers, but did't tell them the other numbers. This put them in a situation where they had to put their best deal on the table in order to get my business. Right now it is looking like it might be anchor, but a coworkers brother works for a dealer and said he could get me a car for $100 over dealer cost. He has the lowest replacement value for what I had at $24048. I had:
1)Wing
2)Premium Sound Package 1 (Blown speakers 3 times)
3)Boost Gauge on steering column
4)Armrest
5)Auto Dimming Mirror / Compass
I want to get the short throw and colored side skirts on the new one. I think I will skip the premium sound setup and go with a profesional sound store and have them set me up with better parts for less money. I'm sick of getting a speaker change with my oil change every 3000 miles.
USAA is Auto insurance for people who have military background. My Dad was in the Navy so that's my in. They also do all other insurance, Credit Cards, and finance houses and cars. I owned my car outright though so that doesn't matter here. Now I need to figure out if I can get a tax break since I would have had a credit for the trade in value on the old car so I would only have to pay tax on the increase in value of the new car. This normally would get waived anywas as I bought the car in the last year, but I got it in Montana where there is no sales tax.

I am not saying that all company are not scum bags, some are. But some are very good and honest.
I expect to get flamed for this, so let it fly. I was just stating my opinion.

Drew,
If You had my claim, how much would I get for my car. Totalled 2002 wrx with 16,000 miles, wing, boost gauge, armrest, dimming mirror, and premium sound. Also one of the dealers told me I should get reimbursed for the tax value on my car too because say I traded it in for $22,000 and bought a new one for $24,000 I would only have to pay tax on the difference.
Thanks for any help.
