I think KC is on to something. The Forester shares it's wheel base with the Impreza. I had one as a loaner and was amazed it had no more usable room inside than my WRX wagon. It was taller and boxier, but had no more usable room unless you are stacking boxes or something in the back.

im obviously biased, but the wrx wagon seems much cooler than the forester xt.
still, i agree with earlier post that the wrx already has more than i can handle. granted, i dont do any rallyX, but this thing is gnarly on the streets.

No doubt.
It was between the XT and the WRX for me, and even though I liked the XT better both mechanically and interior-wise, I could not get over the looks factor. The WRX wagon looks sporty, and the XT simply does not, despite it's tiny hood scoop.
Even my snotty teenage students who scoffed that I would get a wrx wagon admit it's hella cool in person. Doesn't hurt that it's black! =)

this is how i feel. i have a outback ej22e with a custom turbo kit, and my old man has a forester..unfortunatly not XT. i love my wagon and right now would trade it for anything..cept maybe a STi wagon. i like being a little lower to the ground and although the forester isnt huge i just far prefer the wagon.

I was reading posts from someone doing an Forester XT buildup, and he dynoed his XT before modifying it and said that the XT had more horsepower as well as torque as the stock WRX, both with untampered boost..? I guess subaru downsized the ratings to help keep the WRX as their "sports car" in the lineup. The Japaneese STi Forester is their sporty wagon, and in the future there will be a modified legacy, with or without the STi badging that most sti owners choose to remove. Ironic huh? I can't wait for subaru to take over more segments of the auto industry.

Well.... Seems like the forester is pretty cool, and it does make sense for the car to make more horsepower and torque because it's the 2.5 engine turbocharged isn't it? Plus it probably is also geared for torque vs. being geared for speed. My dad just bought a vanilla forester. It's a really nice car, but I don't really want a vehicle that rides that high, and I don't really like the body style as much as I like the wrx wagon's.
The legacy seems to be on the radar, but I will be buying late may, early june.(I already have a guy lined up to buy my current car) I am probably going to drive a wrx wagon today to check it out.

I'd be happy with just putting the blistered front and rear fenders on a wagon. I can't understand why they never did it. To be honest, that is the only reason I didn't buy a wagon. That, and because I couldn't find a yellow one.
