when do you need speed?

I use my WRXs power EVERYday. On-ramps on my drive to class. Passing those annoying semis on the I-state. Passing the punks who think their civics are fast.
I use it at work to make sure I beat the other delivery drivers back to the store.
I absolutly LOVE flying away from some 2WD while on snow or rain slick roads.
As Red Bar0n implies slowing down to make some tailgater try to pass and then 'leaving' is always fun.
I also agree with the "game of chess," it's SO much easier to play to win when you have power. And when the kid next to you thinks you're in a Hundai.

power + handling = fun to drive.
Back when my two daily drivers were a Trans Am and an AWD Talon I started asking myself the same thing. Why do I need these cars? I don't race, street or track. I can't share my driving fun with my 3 year old (at the time), at least not much. I drive in heavy traffic to work and back... So I sold them both and now I'm driving a jeep (which I DO occasionally take on a trail ride).
Guess what? I plan to buy a WRX this summer after I relocate. The top-down big-tire easy to see over stuff occasional LEGAL trail ride driving in the jeep is great, but accelleration and handling of a sports car is something I miss in my daily driver.
As for the speed limits, what does that have to do with the original question? Even my 190HP, 3speed-auto, brick shaped, 31" all terrain tires, Wrangler can break every posted speed limit in the US.

i use speed to speed... doh!
none of us would have a preformace car nor be on these forums if not for that!
when i buy the subaru WRX or STi then ill probably go even faster then im going in my current E36 325is...
its what preformance cars are advertised for and will be used for... go > 65mph
if you wanna keep the speed limits and not drive "dangerously" then please dont buy a subaru or any sports car for that matter.
we have hyundays, kias, hondas, suvs, and many other cars for that.
just speed responsibly, thats all... i speed early in the morning when there is very few cars on the highways and i sure as hell top out my car at 148 w/o a problem, and if i get hurt, well thats my problem and noone elses....
my 2 cents

BTW Even my V-8 powered 35" tired Jeep can get to 100mph ... I did it ONCE, and never will again.
My Jeep is great in town; I can see over everything else, COULD drive over most of them, have the power to pull a semi, and curbs don't matter ..... but there's just something about my WRX.
I don't think I could live without either of them (goin crazy now cuz my WRX is broke).
In closing, just keep your Jeep ... if you sell it you'll miss it later

Once I have the WRX for a daily driver I'll do those things to the jeep I've been afraid to do on a daily driver (moderate lift, new rear axle w/locker, 35" mud or swamp tires, etc).

dont know if this wuz posted already but I used to live in colorado near beaver creek, and the speed limit on the highway was 75mph, talk about speeding on a road where if you slip off, ur dead because you will fall hundreds of feet to the ground. Not to mention all the snow on the ground already

As stated before, you own a car like this for one reason... performance.
I love the push back in the seat taking off
, the side bolsters on the ramp,
pulling away strong without downshifting,
the look on the face of your passenger who is a first timer,
and most of all, not just pulling away from, but utterly confusing the hell out of most "big three" wannabee drivers.
I have recently gone through some moments where I considered giving up the WRX for a Toyota Sequoia. In the end, every time I hit road, the idea just disappears. The only stupid fast is beyond your capabilities for road conditions and/or putting someone else at risk. If I don't see 160+ (100mph) every day, there must be a blizzard in town.
