What if there never was a outback?
If u look at Subaru America a few years ago before they released the outback i dont think they where doing very well from a Marketing standpoint. The Outback really boosted peoples interest in Subaru. With out the outback we would never of had the 2.5RS with out the 2.5RS we would have never had the WRX with out the WRX we never would of had the STI. I believe that the outback greatly helped Subarus sales and interest in the US.
On the same subject of the what the Outback did for Subaru.
What the HELLL is with the new Mitsu OUTLANDER????
Talk about taking ideas, its just the thing that Subaru did. Cause you would have to admit that Mitsu is not really a top seller amoung americans. Just think that once again Mitsu bit off Subaru. Dont get me wrong though Mitsu are not bad cars, but they have only had one really great platform for a good car.

If you lived in the mountains like I did (Lake Tahoe) dureing the late 70's eairly 80's you were already very familiar with the subaru's. It seemed that eveyone was buying them. Remeber the subaru brat? That car had factory option rear seats in the mini bed. That is the car that the Baja decended from. There are also many other models that were very popular with the mountain folk. I think that what happened is the Outback gave the Soccer mom, who never thought about a suby, a car to buy. It basically brought subaru to the mainstream.

I would have to disagree about the mitsu comment. They've had several good performance models and platforms. The Eclipse GST-GSX, Galant VR4, Lancer, GTO(300GT VR-4, and anyone who says this last one isn't a killer obviously hasn't driven one
) Subaru has the Impreza, and gee let me think........umm.........SVX?? That's stretching it, though. It's a good thing that their one is really kick-***.

and all of those mitsubishi's are are on the low low end of performance and last 60,000 miles and then break down. The only decent ones you mentioned were the vr4 and im assuming you mean the evo when you say lancer because lancers have have like 100 hp. Subaru is just so succesful with their impreza they offer the different models that would kill any of those except the vr4. Much love to the svt..haha. Yeah and look at mitsubishi their next perfromance car will be something like Imprezevo or something stupid like that. Mitsubishis suck. (except 2)

), beat the STi on the road course. So don't bash mitsu's, they smoke my turboed 2.2L quite frequently.
