What can I do without voiding my warranty

Nothing will void your warranty short of bringing your car out of the country technically.. However SOA will if they think that whatever you installed etc. caused theh problem deny your warranty claim, call in an rep. from SOA to come look at your car before the dealer can touch it sometimes. If they suspect or think they can blame the problem on your mod even if you know, or it is very unlikely that your mod caused the problem they will deny your warranty claim.
Dealers cannot just void your warranty because you have an mod though that is what I was told after calling the 1800 subaru number for SOA.
Just know that whatever you do, if something breaks that can be blamed on your mod or that is associated with your mod you prob. won't get warrantied for it. It's up to you to decide what mods will cause problems, or what you think you can get away with, but even something like an BOV, or an aftermarket air filter could get an warranty work denied.
I say just enjoy your car, mod it if you feel the need to and take responsibility for anything that breaks BECAUSE of your mods.. if something breaks or you think should be covered under warranty but SOA doesn't think so then your going to have an hard time fighting it most times from what I have heard on the boards. That sucks but thats how it works IMO.

i know a guy w/ a 01 RS (header, cat back, huge 4" intake, underdrive, and all suspension upgrades). only 25k into owning his car the clutch started to slip. so as a shop we told him to take it back to the dealer. at first they tried to deny him right off the spot claiming the added power was causing the problem. well he is not the sort to lie down and take it, so he made some calls. after getting in touch w/ Cobb Tuning, he convinced the dealer to replace his clutch free of charge. so it really depends on whether or not the added parts caused the problem or not. but they will always try to say it did. be persistant and you might luck out.

One thing most people need to remember, or may not know, is that you DO NOT have to bring your car to a dealership for warrenty work (in most US states) so if you have done mod's to your car, you can bring it elsewhere and are less likely to have to worry about the claim. The biggest problem there is finding a Good Mech, if you aren't going to take you car to the dealer!

are you saying you don't have to take it to a certified subaru dealer in some places? b/c here in maine you do. the shop i work in deals 95% w/ subarus, we know just about as much as the dealers, but the dealer would not let us do that clutch job, we had to send it to the dealer. its been the same w/ other warranty work as well.

Car Info: Black WRX, X.S. turbo back exhaust, X.S. cold air, and a lot of plans
Just two notes, 1st on the dealership doing the work, no other shop but a Subaru dealer will do the work for free that I know of. I work at a saab shop, one of the most friendly shops around, and we charge for any work because Saab only "pays" the dealers for warranty work.
Also on the Air filters "an aftermarket air filter could get an warranty work denied." Thats not true because, unless they give you the air filter it is up to you to change it. I read something about it on K&n's site, but I can't find it anymore. From what I remember if they don't give you replacement ones then they can't say anything about the one you use.

I realize that the shop doing the work having trouble getting paid may have an impact on warrenty work, but Im sure that the work does not need to be done by the dealer, I know there was recently an article (maybe on MSN) about this issue, I'll see if I can find it.....On the other hand, seeing as payment for work done can be a major issue, if you aren't happy with one dealer, take it elsewhere (like I needed to tell you all that....LOL)
