Weird news from Subaru
hey everyone, i am new posting here, but i have been reading the forums for some time now. I just read an interesting article about the future of Subaru and the Impreza and i though everyone should know. I just read it on the main page of Autofiend.com (www.autofiend.com)

I would be shocked if Subaru gave up the Impreza line to Saab. I think the combination of heavy resistance by SOA and the dealers will be enough to block this inane idea. Just another example of the lack of creativity and imagination in Detroit. Build your own turbo charged, rally handling car for an insanely cheap price!

Part of the appeal of owning a Subaru is their 'quirky' reputation and appeal. About the only brands more so than Subaru are Saab and maybe Volvo, so naturally Subaru would lose money on that deal.

I read something somewhere about "joint development" between Subi and Saab. That might just mean Saab buying Subi engines and parts or shaing a platform.
Sounds like a big leap to think that Saab would take over the Impreza line. Also remeber that GM only owns 20% of Fuji Juko. The nightmares of valuing, transferring ownership, etc. etc. makes this sound impractical. I can't find the article you mentioned, so I don't know exactly what was written, but this site looks like a rumor site, so I'd take anything I read there with many grains of salt...

Selling out to GM
It was quoted earlier and now even more articles are appearing the WRX will be a saabasized sooner rather than later, NYauto show via autoweek web site looks like the 9-2 will be the choice. I wonder will it be cheaper? faster or more sporty? or will it dilute the WRX and subaru's name. I have a bad feeling about GM,

A joint venture between the two would be very advantageous for both companies. It could give Saab a more exciting vehicle (their current vehicles are very nice, but few people buy them).
Saab knows turbo's like no other company, so this would definately help Subaru. Working together is good. Giving a line to another company would be bad.

I stand corrected.
As well as surprised. Saab and FHI are definitely going through with plans to build this car. It looks as though it will be a fairly thorough re-skin of the GD and GG chassis (chassii? chassises?) with the same Subaru drivetrains. I'd bet on new interiors, or at least the dash and cluster, as well. Still, I don't see how 3 companies are going to profit from the ale of a single vehicle, even one with 2 faces.

weirdest of the weird
I think this is a bad idea, but I am curious of the final product. I wonder how they are going to mount the intercooler on the turbo model. Is this going to be a Saab with a bad *** hood scoop? Or is it going to have front mount intercooler from the factory? (In that case it would be good news for those who just have to have FMIC).
Are they going to move the ignition switch to the arm rest?
I wonder how a customer feels when he/she sees all the Japanese stenciled on various parts of the car, wondering since when Japan took over Sweden.
