Trailer hitch wiring ?

Trailer hitch wiring ?
OK I know that the wires on subarus are small. Can I wire a trailer hitch directly into the tail lights of my 2002 WRX without one of thoes boxes that brings 12v from the battery and not melt the existing wires? I'm going to have only tail/brake/turn lights on the trailer. Please no guesses only facts from people that know first hand that it will or will not work...... Also if it will work is a heavy duty flasher required to make it flash?
Thanks ......
Thanks ......

Wireing
I wired the factory subaru hitch directly into the tail light harness. The harness for the tails is on the passenger side. I don't know about a heavy duty flasher? My trailer works directly off the cars turn signals and brake lights. You have a 12v supply back there in the factory harness, just use a needle power tester to find the correct lines. My suggestion when wireing in the harness is to not cut the wires, but strip a little of the insulation of the factory wire and wrap the trailer wires around them. This way you don't comprimise the factory install.
