It dosnt hurt a turbo vehicle to tow any more than a n/a to tow. Almost all semi's are turbo diesels. If you buy a truck to tow, you usually get a diesel and every manufacturer's (big three) diesel trucks are turbo. I tow my moms 1960 Corvett, boats, jet ski's, etc. with the Hummer (turbo diesel) and have had no problem. To add, the Subaru hitch fits on the STi too. I have one (for pulling 500lb jet ski).

I know this is an old thread, but.......

I have started doing track days with my motorcycles, and have been dependent on other people to get my bike there. To get around this, I just ordered the Subaru hitch and a Harbor Freight trailer. The trailer weighs about 300 lbs, and the bike will add another 500 lbs. I don't think that amount of weight should be a problem, but what about if I try to get two bikes on it??? It will still be under the hitch weight limits of 2000 lbs and 200 lb tongue weight. That would be about 1300 lbs, call it 1400 lbs with gear, etc, and about 140 lbs tongue weight.

For the guys that have installed and towed with the WRX(2002) specifically, what do you all think about this??????????

TIA

I think you'll have a good feeling for how much weight you want to try after loading one bike and then driving around. I used a 4x8 harbor freight trailer but never put more than a few hundred pounds in it... Acceleration was no problem whatsoever, but braking is the issue. You'd probably need trailer brakes once you have a combined trailer weight of over 1500lbs (I'm probably off on this figure... someone else know what it is?), because if someone cuts you off, you may not be able to stop in time... especially at freeway speed.

Thanks. I am planning on replacing my rear brakes before I start to trailer with the car anyway. I am hoping that I won't need trailer brakes...don't even know if the trailer would work for trailer brakes...it is a cheapy set up. I just wanted to make sure the car can handle that kind of trailering weight, since they technically don't suggest trailering with the WRX as opposed to the wagon or RS. Even the guys when I was ordering the hitch was like, it is not for the WRX. I ended up ordering from Subaruparts.com though.

Thanks for the info. Anyone else?
