Car Info: Curr: '09 WRX STI; sold: '99 996 Cab, '02 WRX wag.
Using my '02 WRX wagon w/Vishnu stage 1, I towed an 8 foot utility trailer holding my CRF450 many times. Each trip was 400 miles round trip and I'd travel around 75 mph with no problems.

I just got the '09 STI and have a truck so no plans towing with a Subbie going forward. Anyone want to purchase a trailer? PM me if interested.

I used to tow my Yamaha 700 Mountain Max snowmobile with my 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS.

Wasn't a problem at all.

what type of hitch were you guys using?

searching around, it mostly says that the car takes a class1 hitch and towing trailers use class2+

I forget which one is class 1, but if that's the 1-1/4" size, then yes, that's what's made for our cars. That said, I bought one of those, cut off the 1-1/4" receiver, and welded on a two inch receiver that I got for $20. I did this so that my 2" bike rack would fit on both this car and my wife's
SUV. Of course, this doesn't increase the load it can tow or carry...
