Arrow Taking off front grill and doing silencer mod..

How do you take the front grill off? This is driving me nuts, I see the top 4 clips.. but ti's held on by two other ones that I have no clue where they are located at.. i only remember from reading it somewhere.

Also for the silencer removal... It says to take the ram air off, I see two nuts for that, and when I undo those I try to pull lightly on it and it goes up but it looks like it's going all the way down into a hole in the side of the car... I can't get this off at all.

I think that's it for now, I have checked out scoobmods, but that hasn't helped me out... I wish to do mods that are free for the time being and that can be easily done to increase the car's performance :-)

Thanks,
-Nigel

The front grill is held on by four plastic black clips. Open your hood, and look directly down at your front grill. Can't miss them. In the middle of the clips are perfectly round holders. Just grab the holders with your fingers (Helps to have nails) and pull the holders from the clip. Then you can take off the clips. Your grill should be loose now. Now you can remove the front grill by pushing down on the clips bolting the grill to your car. Hope this helps.

i did the silencer mod yesterday. when you remove the 2 bolts i think there 10mm from the ram air just give it a tug. should come right out. then theres a bolt in between the intake box and what was just the ram air plug in the fender wall. unbolt it and theres only one more screw inside the fender that you need to take out so you can pull the snorkle out.

silencer mod....

just jack your passengers side up a bit... get under there... and right in the front there should be two pins, just turn those and pull them out... you should be able to access the snorkle and be able to tug it right out, I believe there is one bolt which holds the snorkle in, right between the airbox and the ramair scoop, which you'll have to remove first.

So, if I have this correct then the ram air and the snorkle is not the same thing. But after you remove the two bolts holding it on then you have to life the front passenger side of the car off to pull out the plug? Am I correct in saying this?

I look in front of the front passenger side underneath the vehicle and see a pointed opject with a hole in it... what is that, it's made of metal? What If I acccedentaly started to use the jack under that then realsized it wasn't that and then stopped... is everything going to be alright?

Thanks,
-Nigel

I just took it out! Took me an hour..lol

Anyways.. It's louder when I start the car... not too much but a tad :-) That is nice.. But once I get up to 3000 rpms, it does this....shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I am guess that is the intake sucking in air?

My only problems are these:

A. Did I just void my new car's warranty?
B. I need to plug up the hole for the ram air and also the intake, But it's goota look nice, I saw the part number for the ram air hole, P-N 46059FA000
C: Since I took out the snorkle out the ram air is not "flimsy" because it doesn't hook onto that... how can I correct this problem?
D: Do I have to reset the ECM? How do you even reset the ECM, is the ECM like the ECU of a car?

Thanks,
-Nigel

You may be hearing the BOV now if you have a WRX

Plug the hole and remove the front part now, the one that goes to the front of the radiator (It's not Ram Air it's just an intake )

Also take out the airbox and do this:

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...=&threadid=167

It will increase the opening size.

It can't hurt to reset the ECU but it will learn on it's own in time.

Peaty,

Thanks for the reply!

Did I void the warranty of my wrx now that I have done this?

How do you reset the ECU? I do have a lap top so do I have to get a cable to hook into the ECU?

When you mean plug the hole, I was just going to get the Subaru part # 46059FA000, that is the black plastic piece for impreza's that have a little duct, so you don't see the nasty hole and metal, sort of finishes the piece. Why would I remove the intake, how would air get into the engine and intake if I remove it? I am not seeing how air could get from the front of the car into the intake hole where the snorkle is.. Just so that I know, there are two holes, one where the front intake (ram looking) thing went into then a second hole where the filter is? Do you mean plug up the front intake (ram air looking thing) hole completely or just put a duct in there?

Thanks again!

I LOVE MY REX!!!

I took out my Snorkus and my dealer never said anything all the times I took it in. I took it out of my new F-XT too. YMMV

Yes that's the part number for the fender plug, put that where the front hole of the silencer was. That long flat thing that use to pull in air just above the radiator, remove that whole part. I call it the Platypus It serves no useful purpose now. It won't "Pressurize" the wheel well or anything like that. The fender is far from air tight and you'll get plenty of cool, unrestricted air from in there. Open up the existing airbox per the link I posted above and seal the airbox to fender gap with some weatherstripping.

Here is a pic of an NA motor w/ the fender plug:

As far as a K&N panel filter, you'll get all sorts of answers on that one. Do they increase the HP more than likely not. However, you can save money by getting one because it's reusable. There is always a danger though of over oiling it after you clean it. The oil can get on the MAF sensor and that's not good.
