Cool SUBIESPORT's 05 RS

We just picked up a 2005 RS to be the first in-house "street tuned" project car for the forthcoming SUBIESPORT Magazine:

"Zero to Hero" (yeah, a bone-stock RS, ie Zero)

I believe only the WRX got the new wheels and the RS gets the old wheels still. Something to differentiate the car I guess. Not sure. The paint looks like the new silver though.

Zero = no options. The RS this year is basically last years TS. To get the "real" RS you need to get the "Sport Package" which is only $1000 more (better seats, momo wheel, 6-CD changer, STi-style fog covers, etc.). However for the sake of the mag, we went as low as we could go...most of it will probably get swapped out anyhow.

I agree that the old WRX wheel pattern is getting long in the tooth, Subaru should have introduced a new design for both the RS and the WRX this year.

The color is Platinum Silver Metallic...was that not available in '04?

A current EJ25 buildup would be a nice feature article seeing as the focus of so many magazines is on the WRX. I'd like to see what could be done to capitalize on the existing strengths of the 2.5, like displacement advantage over the EJ20, low end torque, higher compression, lighter engine weight without the turbo, intercooler, and related hardware.

Shedding some front end weight with an aftermarket hood and battery could make a significant difference in autocross times.

We thought so as well

Can anyone make a suggestion on a CF hood for the '05 RS? Most of the models I've found so far are just for the previous body style or for bug-eye WRXs.

Why not go with a WRX hood? It's lighter, available right this second, and a less common and more subtle change than a CF hood.

Personally, I prefer not to have a scoop. That's my only complaint about that angle.

I was at the dealership and here are the differences in the new 05's.

05 RS - No painted side skirts, painted fog covers, wrx rims, new 05 interior.
05 wrx - painted side skirts, fog lights, new wrx rims, single exhaust, climate control with 05 interior.

I think those were the only differences, along with the new silver for 05.

That's lame. Its not right to make the same features a $1000 option. Looks wierd to have holes there and no lights. That color has been around for a while. Its the color my '02 is.

You totally hooked me now with this. I wasn't going to subscribe, but then I saw this and got a 2 year subscription. Can't wait to read it.

The thing I really find odd is the total lack of map lights...didn't even see an option for them. Just an indent above my head where they would go.

Cool

Here's a newer pic...still stock. However we have the following goodies heading our way: H&R Coilovers, COBB header and exhaust, 17" konig wheels. A bosal exhaust just arrived today..when we get a couple more we can start running comparos.
