STI Engine in 2002 2.5 RS?
Hey everyone...
I am just curious if it is posible to install the 2.0 STI engine in a 2002 RS.
I found an engine direct from japan with only 200kms on it!....and and dreaming of swaping this into my 2002 RS.
Would I have to also use the STI transmission? or could the STI engine be mated to my current 5MT?
Anyone have any insight into this mater?
Thanks fellow subes
Peter

Mechanically, it shouldn't be too tough. Not sure about the tranny, but I think the stock one will hold the power, unless you build it way up, but that's true of the non-STi engne, too. The biggest problem you might hit will be the wiring, but I don't know anyhting about the similarities/differences between the cars. I do know that if you get theengine, get the ECU with it, as I'm sure the NA EJ25 ECU won't have a clue what to do with the EJ20T. Not sure how the JDM ECU would work whith the US gauge cluster.

Cool...thanks for the info....yes it will come with the intercooler, vf30 turbo, and STI ECU....I guess the only thing needed is a wrx hood to accommodate the intercooler, and yes the wiring thing would probably be a challenge. I dont plan to tweak the engine to the potential 350 (without mechinical mods) ....at least not right away so hopefully the tranny will be able to handle the load. If not some beefed up gears and clutch should put the tranny up to par with the engine. The RS however does not have the limited slip diff in the back....so slippage would be expected under hard acceleration....
anyways thanks for the info....any more advice is welcome....if I do pick up the engine....I definatly showcase my progress here for all RS owners to druel over

Yes, the EJ207 is good, but there is a catch- you can't get 95 octane unleaded very easily. You won't get as much power out of it as it got in Japan. Read this for explanation of why. If you are getting a good price,, go ahead and buy it- the internals are amazingly good, much better than the standard EJ205 we get in the US. But you will have to tweak it to run right on our 91 octane squirrel pee.

yes I just finished reading that article actually.....
here in canada sunoco provides some prety descent high grade octane.......
I know there would be some challenges in this project....but its too tempting to turn down.....
...yes I could have bought a WRX and be done with the questions......but unfortunatly my budget at the time prevented me from making that purchase....and to be honest....I really like the idea of putting together a wolf in sheeps clothing....
....not into large spoilers...or wasting my time with carbon copy honda wannabe racers ...I leave most of them in my dust with the standard 165HP...just looking to replace my powerplant with something that can excite me after I have put my gf to sleep

i don't know how it is in canada, but in the us the engine has to be originally from a vehicle that is of the same model year or newer.

I pretty positive there is no such stipulation in canada, of having to have the same year or newer engine. And although here in the GTA (greater toronto area) we have emissions testing...its not nearly as strict as it is in say california...
earler someone mentioned the gauge cluster....yes I could easily get my hands on and STI one (love the tach in the centre)...
thanks for the tip on i-speed....I will run my project by them to see what they say....
