Sorry, but that stupid "It's still a neon" is just a line used by the people out there that are scared of the things handing them their asses in a couple of months.
BOTTOM LINE, you have to give the car props because it will definitly be at the top or very near to the top of all the sport compacts and that you can't deny!!

Geo metro....c'mon, I've heard my own friend who owns a Impreza say the neon SRT looks just like a WRX. LOL You can't deny it though, they do look a lot alike. Anyway, it looks nothing like a Geo metro!!?? LOL

look....i think what we mean to say about neons is that they are, while the SRT4 mayb be fast, why cant dodge make a better looking neon, i mean, they arent sporty looking and they always tend to ride high despite the lowering springs that come on the SRT4......sure its fast, but it doesnt handle great and the looks are still whats killing it.....but yes, it is a damn fast car....now spanking a WRX is an overstatement, maybe beating it, but not by much at all.

You know, when the first WRX's were released here in Hawaii, the running joke was that the WRX had the headlights of a Neon and the rear tailights of a Echo. And there is some people that say that's why Subaru is changing the look of the car after only 2 years? Talk is talk, but you cant deny what performance the WRX is capable of. Same goes for the Neon.
For me, reguardless of make, I still have to give the SRT-4 props for the performance the car is capable of, even though I drive a Subaru which is besides to point.
Oh, and about Geo Metros.........I know of one here that has a Toyota/TRD/Formula Atlantic 4AGE 5-valve engine that puts out 200+hp and has, in fact, "spanked" a couple of WRX's that I know of, not to mention numerous Hondas, Nissans, Mustangs and such. No props for a Corolla based, Metro?
I'll give it then.

Ok, so basically, the WRX is a slightly better economy car than the Neon, and that's about it. The WRX is not anywhere near the level of quality as many other cars. Thus, it's greatest appeal is it's performance. Well, the SRT has performance and a LOWER price. Seems that Dodge outdid Subaru except for the AWD. But, a great AWD system such as that on the Audi A4 is about
$1600-$1900. That would put the SRT at still less money and much fast once the AWD gets a grip.
No, Dodge did outdo Subaru in the "bang for buck" category.
My taste is still for the WRX though. I like it's new looks better than the SRT.
I will test drive the SRT though. I'd like to see what it really has.
As far as a turbo "upgrade", why bother? I thought the SRT came with the
Mits HI 16G turbo? That is one awesome turbo. I put one in my 90 Laser turbo as an "upgrade" to the stock unit back a few years ago.

As far as a SRT-4 spanking a WRX, that IS an overstatement, I know the SRT will have a slight edge in straight line and vice versa on the corners.

"the WRX has the advantage at the takeoff.....but at the 100ft mark the SRT4 is pulling away from the WRX like a Viper passing a school bus"
"by the 1/4 mile the SRT4 is easily 3 to 4 car lengths ahead."
"by the 2nd 1/4 mile the WRX driver had to squint to see the SRT4"
Obviously we have all taken up with the wrong cars... and seeing as how the car is going to be such a hot item we are probably all stuck.
Ohh if I only had that "factual" article a few months ago.

I look at the SRT4 and only see a FWD car with a turbocharged 2.4l engine with sports sus. Seems like a meat and potatoes car in terms of technology with nothing out of the ordinary IMHO. Also, I would think that with a turbo powering the front wheels, that it pushes a lot going into corners. But, the price is good (~20k right?)for a car that powerful. I think it will take a chunk out of the Subaru WRX, Sentra SE-R, Integra Type-R and Ford Focus SVT market.
But, for me, I'd rather save up and get the Sti. The car that Dodge's SRT came up with is no comparison to the car that Subaru's STi came up with.

I'm sorry, I've had a few Dodge's and they are ultimate POS. Anyone who says they have 65k on a Dodge without problems is straight out LYING.
Here's what owning an SRT-4 will be like.
30K miles - replace clutch because it has gone bad
40k miles - replace water pump because it broke
50k miles - replace MAS and ECU because they have broken
60k miles - replace transmission mounts
70k miles - replace motor mounts
80k miles - blown head gasket
That is typical of a Dodge.
