You know now that I think about it I haven't seen a Evolution called a Lancer Evolution since the Evolution stopped using the Lancer frame. The Lancer has nothing in common with the Evolution other then the shell over it. Different frames, belly pan, engine, suspension, brakes, transmission, interior, ECU, wiring and damn near everything else.

Doesn't the SRT-4 come with an OEM flower vase in the dash and leopard print seats and steering wheel cover as an option?

Not to back up Dodge or Subaru, but could I pose a question, Id like to hear opinions on this.

If you were given $26,000 that is the price for the WRX (retail, mind you....) and were told to buy a SRT-4, you just saved $6000 right? Ok, let move on.... with the $6000 you have left over buying a WRX, you could get coilovers, quality tires/wheels, lsd, larger turbo, FMIC, downpipe, cat-back, big brakes, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada. If you could you make the Neon out handle, accelerate, and out brake a subaru, would you? For the same price as a stock WRX? Will the AWD still be a factor? Or is the AWD the only factor?

I know it sound stupid, but think about it. If you really are cheap. This might be the way to go.......

I do not endorse Dodge or Subaru, just posing a question, so no flaming, just opinions, please.My main reason for asking is WHY you would do it, IF you did. Just like to know what you guys think. Or better yet HOW you guys think.

If I was really cheap I'd buy a Hyabusa or a R1 bike and in stock trim the only thing I'd have to worry about is a fully built Supra or some other car that runs in the 10s stock. Of course I could still put the left over cash into the bike for a turbo kit and then have way too much power for anything on the street. That is if you could get traction and got used to enough power to break the tire loose at 100mph.

That is the arguement, the SRT-4 pretty much does that stock. It will definetle out do it with coilovers(stock suspension has no camber adjustment), and wider rims and tires. The thing is going 0 to 60 in 5.6 sec front wheel drive on 6 inch wide rims. Putting down 250 ft/lbs at the wheel at 2000 rpm on those skinies is a very limiting factor in the stock acceleration.

I understand what you are getting at, but 26k for a new WRX is a bit on the high side for stock. 23k would be better. and I don't think you could complete your shopping list for 6 thousand dollars. Aftermarket turbos aren't out yet because you have to replace the whole manifold.
With all that being said the Article was quite a bit colorful but If I was a Neon fan I would be pertty excited about the SRT4 like may Imprezza fans were/are about the WRX. It seems to offer quite a bit of car for the money.

That's just the attitude that the SRT crowd is hoping to hear, I'd guess. Just makes theirs easier to find & buy / makes their wins that much more sweet. ("Dude! You just got your *** kicked by a Neon!!!) That is one of the reasons I got my wagon: no one expects it! (Dude! You just got your *** kicked by a little wagon!!!)

yeah that's why i got a wagon also. i want to be able to carry a baby seat and still do 13's in the 1/4 (with mods). And it is a practical car too.

OK...both the SRT4 and WRX are not cars that will attract the ladies (no matter how fancy my sti lights and grill look to me)...in fact, I've had girls mistake the WRX for a neon...hahaha...

But bottom line is this...they are both giving bad *** performance for the price...the SRT4 is going to be at least a car that can hang with the WRX from stop light to stop light especially since these days nobody tries to race us (not that i'm condoning street racing...hehe)...so it'll be fun seeing the new Neons. When I meet my first SRT4 at the line...I'm gonna give em props.

the way some WRX people are viewing Dodge and their Neon line is probably the same way people with M3's and S4's look at us...so let's just be the bigger ones and give respect all around and just be safe...

I love the twisty roads in my rally style WRX, that straight line speed isnt fun for me... any idiot can drive fast in a straight line. If that is somebodys idea of fun the neon is for them.
So many kidz are crashing their WRX's that I really hope they start to get neons so my insurance wont go way up

I'd say right there you basically said the SRT-4 will be able to take corners as good as a mini van or somethin. Um no, neon acr's have been in autox for years and they've been winning for years. Neons have really been known for tearing up corners with a stock acr suspension. The suspension on the SRT-4 is even better than on an acr and SCC said they where more than impressed with the SRT-4 on the corners. If it's already that good, throw a nice set of coilovers on that thing and it'll be tearin up corners very nicely. I think this car is going to be a huge autox contender since it'll probably be a better handling car than even the ACR and it obviously is a LOT faster. It'll also be just as good in the stop light races to though. =-)

Point taken on the stock WRX price. I remember when they were that price when the WRX was first released. And as for larger turbos, Mopar Performance just released a larger turbo for the Unreleased SRT-4 as well as a downpipe for the larger turbo. Let the games begin. Of course, until it rains
