I'm glad to see that Dodge will be producing the SRT-4. It's a refreshing change to see an American sport compact car with some power. I'd really be interested in checking out that big FMIC setup firsthand.
I drive an 02 WRX now and it's as much fun as my GLHS, but in different ways. I bought the WRX not so much because of the performance, but because of its performance *potential*.

Hmm...I musta got lost in the shuffle from the old I-club boards. I've been a rather lurking member of a few of these boards since April 2001...when I was in the market for an older Legacy, possibly an Impreza. I was nothing but welcomed in to the NorthWest Region members...and even welcomed at a rallycross where I competed (though I'd hardly call it competitive) in a 74 VW Baja Bug. I'm very let down that the warm welcome that was portrayed to me by so many people, can be shadowed by so many close minded fools. To each his own already. Everyone knows that neons dont have the best build quality, but not every car suffers that fate. I have 2 neons, a 95 and a 99, both have had very minimal issues considering the abuse they have both been through. By far, the funnest car I've ever driven. Granted, I havnt found someone to let me codrive an RS or WRX etc at a local autoX. As for the whole SRT4 stink...its way obvious (even to a neon owner) that the article written by Mopar Now was way biased. Personally, I find Mopar Now a joke. Nothing but glorified show cars, all from WV, land lf Howell Automotive, like thats the only place on earth neons are potent. So why must we take this jibberish some editor puts in a crappy magazine as fact? Why does this have to put a thorn in our side? Why cant we just compare them side by side when they fineally do ship out? Last I heard, they are already rolling out of the parking lot in Belvidere, IL.
in conclusion, I guess I'll quote what a member of neons.org said.
"I have no problem admitting I drive a neon, but I'm not bragging either." My Dad's 95 Neon sport coupe came in 2nd in Street Mod in Oregon Region SCCA Solo2, and next year, when I have my SRT4 eating Neon Sport Coupe, there will be some neon respect laid down. I could care less how my car, or any other neon compares to a Subbie...its apples vs oranges. They were never aimed at the same audiences, never meant for the same purposes. Personally...I'd love to pick up a broken motor'ed high mileage POS 95 neon coupe, and retrofit some Impreza fun stuff. I've been mocked before, but its always been a pipe dream of mine. I dont care for the 97-2001 RS interior design at all. Cramped and cluttered, but I love the power outputs, and AWD...so we'll see, someday I may combine what I call the best of both worlds. Until then...I'll keep on trading podiums with Subarus, in my 142K mile 95 neon sport coupe (in very much not stock form), or even my old man's 120K mile one. ...and I'll be doing all that, for under 10K total investment.
that said...I'm more than willing to date/marry my way into an Impreza, but there just isnt any room for more cars, 3 for a single male is enough.

Actually the B4 is approximately 280hp not 350, and the US version according to the article will be less, about 270 but will offer more torque. Overstating the facts is what started this thread.

And its always been the Lancer Evolution its called EVO kinda like the WRX STI is called "the STI". I called it the EVO 8 (as well as the average american here) as it is the 8th generation of the car.

no, it has always had a number, evo VI, evo VII, evo VIII everywhere else. it will be just the lancer evolution so people dont get confused when it is a first year car here and it has VIII on it.
and the srt-4 will be a limited model car, and guess what? it wont have a hefty dealer mark-up. $19,995 delivered.

Actually I did pay 25k but that was with thte prodrive pirelli package. shortshifter, arm rest and upgraded sound system. A base model can be bought for approx 22-23 that is a7k+ gap from what you posted as the price for the Lancer Evolution. 30 - 23 = 7. Not that it matters because there is still no official price on the "Lancer Evolution" so your speculating. Maybe you should know the facts before you try and sharpshoot someone.
And Its always had the number but its always also been a Lancer Evolution called EVO for short. And yes I am aware of the fact that the car would have the EVO followed by number. Maybe you should check out the video "The History of the Lancer Evolution" maybe you'll learn something. This will be the 8th generation of the EVO weather it is labeled like that in the US or not. the car is the production car that will be released to the world. http://www.autozone.co.jp/html/pc/sp-evo8/index.html
Should say it all.
And as far as the price for the NEON goes the mission was to bring a car with the performance for under 20k. But seeing as how its not on the showroom floor yet either the price is again speculative. Dont believe everything you read. If you do you may actually think that a SRT4 will pull from a WRX like a Viper passing a school bus.

Even though I am a neon owner...I am embarrassed to admit it here now. For almost 2 years, I've followed pieces of subaru boards, and now, we have young punks who think they know everything about everything, posting about cars they know nothing about. I've been a rather active member in sport compact cars for a few years now...followed the Rex off and on a bit...and would say, WITH ONE WHEEL TIED BEHIND EITHER OF ITS TWO EXTRA AXLES, IT WOULD BEAT A SOHC/ATX NEON ANY DAY!! For crying out loud neon people...if you arent studying up on subarus, why are you here? Look at the top of this page, it reads "I-Club", not Neons.org PITS Board. Theres a crappy enough post about this thread there already, why does this chit have to be dragged back and forth here? The WRX has already proven its worthyness in almost every catagory. Even the 2.5 RS is on par with a very well driven Neon ACR in GS. So in the wise words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

"Such harsh words. Am I supposed to be afraid of a neon? I'm not afraid of any auto. I have the hardware to get the job done. Trust."
k2
I wish I lived on the west coast because you would not be saying anything about my car. We could race in the 1/4 mile, around an oval, through some twisted mountain roads or whatever. My car rides on rails. Yes you should fear a Neon because we have Tao, something you couldn't even begin to fathom. And as for auto's.............thats what mine is and that is what is being used on some of the fastest drag cars out there. Oh and one more thing: to each his own in this world of cars. You guys love your cars we love our cars end of story. Everyone gets so aarogant about what type of car they own and it is rediculous.
Trust.

"A Mitsubishi 2003 Lancer Evolution (MSRP: not to exceed $32,000 including prep and destination charges). "
ouch... YOU HAVE JUST BEEN SNIPED. have a nice day, buh by. maybe YOU should know the facts before you discredit someone, dontcha think?

"DODGE ENGINEERS - The base price is $19,480. Destination is $515 dollars, for a total of $19,995 MSRP. That includes everything -- the only options on the srt-4 are color and side airbags."

You must really be confudsed. now yourr posting not to exceed 32 wich is now close to 10g's over base price. Wich takes it well out of price range of the WRX.
Sniped me? Son you can't even see me. Take your BB gun and go back to your NEON forum. YOU discredit YOU with every new comment YOU make. YOU not I have posted the prices on the EVO proving your own point wrong.
Why wont it be the EVO 8 in America, because we only put a Lancer Evolution badge on it? Weather or not its called an EVO 8 by Mitsu dealers in America it is still the EVO 8. Saying "well america doesnt call it that so it doesn't count" Doesn't change that fact. it's the 8th generation of the car even if it is the first time it will be in American showrooms. The number at the end coincides with the generation. The only reason I argue the point is because in an earlier post YOU stated we were the only ones to call the car the Lancer Evoulution, and that the rest of the world calls it the EVO plus number. Now after I show you otherwise all you can come up with is "and? in america it wont be evo VIII", and a Web site that calls the car by its Name. The whole world Calls it the Lancer Evolution. Enthusiasts called it the EVO and number. Mitsu caught on to their target market and started badging it as such. Its almost like you dont know what your arguing about you simply want to argue.
MSRP or Manufacturers SUGGESTED (not written in stone) retail priceand what you actually pay for the car are generally different. Ever hear of dealer markup? That's a something the DEALER comes up with not the manufacturer. See the dealer gets a car from manufacturer tith a price of 20k but said dealer bleieves that he/she will have no problem getting an extra 3k because its a limited. or hot. or popular car so he/she goes ahead and marks it up 3 grand. Its what most of us call economics or supply and demand to be more precise.

Can we fineally end all this crap? I enjoy watching the RS's and Rex's at the local autoXes, I very much enjoyed riding in Subie Gal's front driver at a RallyCross, and I even like watching neons do the same, but for crying out loud, cant we all just get along?
