Actually, when turbocharged the stock DOHC neon will make roughly 225hp (without intercooler) all the way up to 275hp(Intercooled) on stock internals, so obviously its not a bad motor, but the reason why they chose the 2.4 is because as you can tell from the specs in numerous magazines of the actual production car, it is making 245 lb/ft of torque.

Sorry if I come off angry, but really, if you like your car, then so what! Enjoy what you have, and there is no need for trashing on other peoples cars!

If I wanted a car that went fast in a straight line I would of bought a used Civic and dumped another 10gs into it. The SRT has some promise of being the new ricers dream car but thats all itll ever have. Itll never come close to the WRX on any track thats dirt or not straight.
Oh and its still a Neon.

What's a neon ACR designed for? Auto-x? Road Racing? All of the above?
Go to an Auto-x with a neon ACR or R/T in it and see how well it does without having a Turbo or AWD.
After you do that research, think about what it could be if it had 0.4L more and a turbo.
Used civics with 10gs in them are not the best drag cars. Why not get an old z28 or old mustang or hemi cuda and drop 10gs into it? Then you'd have a drag car.
Oh, and a WRX STi is still only an imprezza.

first off I didn't trash the SRT-4 i mocked the article I will never own a SRT4, but I Wont go into a fit of rage or anything when i see one.
The Lancer Evo will probably cost a good 10k more than a WRX and if it doesn't it is going to be a real stripped down version. Remember this the EVO 8 we are geting not the 7. But if you want to use the EVO7 as an example they cost about 38k American. I got my WRX nicely eqiped for 25k base is about 2k less. 15k still in the price range?
And yes Car and driver tests those cars and more. Their 10 best list is based on production cars that people actually buy on a regular basis. It is the same thing that SCC does when they pick their car of the year. they look at thier target market and pick the car that way. I mean c-mon under your argument are you saying they ran the SRT4 against the Skyline and it beat those? And where were all the other Sport compact cars they never looked at. I read SCC but they only look at a small portion of the market and they are clearly geared at tuners. See i read that magazine also.
Again I am not angry if people like another car more than mine, I dont care if another car can beat my car in a race, because their is alot of cars out their that can. Only a fool believes otherwise. And the article didn't make me angry, I simply found it pathetic and amusing and thought other people would as well.

Yeah, it's a 10 best right alongside the ford focus.
And sport compact basically said "wow, this is a lot of performance for 20k, we like that" with their whole "car of the year" thing. 16 years ago it might have been an Omni GLH-S getting the same review.

First off I love WRX's they are awesome, I love to watch world Rally(routing for the suby, even though they haven't been doing very well). I have nothing against subaru, my friend has a 2.5RS and I love it.
With that said, I race neons, I have 2, and I am buying an SRT-4. I read the threads bashing neons all the time and I laugh, but I never post, but it's getting old.
I live in Cincinnati Ohio, it does not snow here very often, and dosen't rain a lot, In my eyes I have no reason to own an all wheel drive car. You can bash FWD all you want but the truth is I AutoX, and my still bone stock, 113K mile, all origional, neon ACR will spank a wrx any day of the week. I suck at AutoX and I was still almost fastest in my class and was faster than all of the WRX's, modded or not.
The bottom line is the SRT-4 will run 13's stock with me in the drivers seat, and will be a capable handler. BTW I am not a ricer, mine will be black with tags reading "SRT 4", come and find me.

The ACR WILL NOT spank a WRX any day of the week in an Auto-X. I will gladly take you up on that challenge. I respect the performance of a Neon with a capable driver behind the wheel, they CAN be quick. They are impressive for a compact with not a lot of power and great grip and handling. The factor that many of you are not figuring in is the driver. I don't care how much HP or if it's AWD, 2WD or 1WD if the driver is no good the comparison is Bull Puckey. The only way to compare the cars is for a few drivers to drive both cars and see what the average is between all of the drivers. Then and only then can you make a determination of which is faster. Ultimately it does not matter which car is faster, it is only important as to which makes you happy. Neons will crush some WRX's at auto-x and drag racing and road couses. Not because of the capabilities of the car but the capabilities of the driver.

the lancer evolution (not called the evo 8 in america) will be about $30,000 without dealer markup. so, that is very close to the wrx.
Without dealer markup your already 7+ grand wich for alot of people is already a deal breaker and if you expect a limited model car not to come with a hefty dealer markup your kidding yourself. Furthemore your price is speculative. So now you have a minimum of a 7+ grand gap.
And its always been the Lancer Evolution its called EVO kinda like the WRX STI is called "the STI". I called it the EVO 8 (as well as the average american here) as it is the 8th generation of the car.
As far as the car and driver thing goes all cars or most cars its a hell of alot more cars then SCC you should get the point. But just in case exuse my discrepancy I wouldnt want to follow in the shoes of MOPAR now and post blatant lies.
