I'm not sorry for my previous sarcasm.
I'm also not one of those people who sit around and hate on cars simply because they aren't my choice of car. I also dont harbor hatred for domestics, I usually take a car at face value. My last experience with a chrysler engine was in an eclipse that cost me way to much money because of the crappy dual timing belt configuration. I just found it very funny that Mopar took them selves serious enough to write an article and clearly over exagerates and twists the facts. Maybe I should just chalk it up to literary license. Or maybe they are trying to compensate for the fact that the WRX is just a better car.

so what if the srt4 can get a quarter mile time that is better than the wrx (still not really written in stone)? the 0-60 is only so important. all that stuff is irrelevant. what is important is how the car drives, handling, sufficient power, and overall package... and thats where WRX $hits on some neon... the Sub's grip to the winding road (all roads aint straight, sorry neon) is amazing, awd is definitely better than some 2wd and manual is better than automatic.... and then there is off-road... forget that the neon will even approach that... its not made for it... its not fit to shovel $hit... WRXs are used in rally driving for a reason... and its not for 1/4 mile or 0-60...
like mentioned before... neon is a domestic car... so crappy in fact, its never going to see int'l roads cause its too pathetic to do so... and life expectancy is like 5 years max... so you may have your fun on some local roads (in alabama) with the neon, but overall... it cant even approach the wrx.. the neon shouldnt even be mentioned in same sentence as the wrx...
thats what i have to say
happy holies

agility
I believe that I saw the term agility describe imported sports cars somewhere.
I think that's a good description. What Japanese cars, for example, lack in raw speed they make up in agility which one can describe as cornering, turning, etc... ability. Plus, I think Japanese sports cars are more pleasing to the eye than the domestics.

i think the 1/4 mile test stats are crap, who cares. Like someone said earlier, it's a Neon. i would be embarress to say i drive a neon. they should test the two in a real world test like snow, rain, and curvy road instead of a straight line and we'll see who comes out on top.
imagine talking to some hot chicks and tell them that you drive a Neon? blaaaahhhh

Forgot one thing
in the Mopar magazine the SRT-4 was tested against the WRX Wagon( no offense to the wagon owners), if they are gonna test two cars the should be either sedan's or coupes or wagons, dont mix it up to get an advantage. they also noted that the SRT-4 was lighter. but it was the WRX wagon not the Sedan, i personally think that dodge, will never test their neon against a WRX other than straight line performance

I didnt forget i just figured since mopar didnt feel the need to be entirely forth-rite with the info neither did I. If they were being honest they would have said the WRX driver was squinting in his rearview to see the SRT-4.
I thought that part was pretty rediculous also, the wagon VS sedan. The weight factor was funny also 100 pounds is roughly = to 5-6hp or so I am told. And the average person driving that car would slap the weight back on by the way of a wing that doubles a third row seating and 50 pounds of type "R" stickers. (I swear I have seen it). They just really went out of their way to trash their competition.
The sad part is, is that nobody but Mopar fans and bored people at stop and shop read their rag. And the average "Mopar" person hates Neon, go figure.
I bet if someone checked a Neon forum (Ireallyhavenoselfrespect-club.com I think) they would be singing their praises right now.

Another Thing To Note
Another thing i was thinking was remember what happened with the PT cruiser when it first came out? 10g's over sticker was the cheapest they could be found, whats gonna happen to the srt-4?Say dodge dealers only add a 5g availability fee on the sticker, they now have a 24,000 dollar neon, with tons of power, and can't turn as well as their previous 4 door rocket(the market was slim then), the dodge colt. I dont even think neon fans will wanna touch it for that price.

no one wants a neon
i don't think anyone in their right mind would want to drive a neon.. the only neons i see on the street are those that are owned by rent-a-cars like enterprise and sh*t.. its cause neons suck.. i just got a 2003 wrx.. and i love it!!!

A few things... One... I'm done with Dodge.. I traded my Dodge Mini Van in on a WRX less than two weeks ago. I just paid off my Dodge Dakota, and it will be the next to go. By the way.. my Dakota is a lemon replacement. My 98 Dakota was a royal POS.
The funny thing is that my father SELLS THE DAMN THINGS. And is highly anti-*** car. he cracks me up sometimes with the crap that he says. I took him for a ride in the REX. He picked it apart the best he could... from making fun of the cup holder, to saying he thought it would be faster.. I'm still breaking it in.. He even made a point to open and close the door again like he didn't think it sounded right... But in the end, he had to admit it was a nice car...
As for the SRT-4... I'm still waiting to see an actual production model comparison. I am still a bit sceptical of a car rated at 215HP at the crank that the magazine puts on a dyno and get 223HP at the wheels. Something sounds a little fishy about that to me. And it certainly would not be the first time a car manufacturer realeased a souped up pre-production car to the press to drive. I drove a PT Cruiser Turbo.. supposedly the same drivetrain... and granted a few pounds heavier than a WRX... but NOWWHERE near as quick. And while the cup holders, leather seats and sunroof would have been nice... It's still a Dodge NEON! And as far as the difference in price? Who cares.. you'll get that and then some back in resale down the road. Dodge resale values drop like a stone.
And for the SRT-4 owner that want's to drag race? Fine, let's do it in the rain

here is a great piece of proof why the str-4 can take its (supposedly faster 1/4) and shove it up its own a$$

Ok, i hope at least one person reads what i have to say
Mopar now is stupid. I own a neon, and i don't like their magazine. Their logic is as moronic as the "ricers" that they poke fun of. It's one thing to be proud of a marque, but they're blind to anything that isin't mopar.
Now the other issue i'd like to address is the SRT's 223 wheel horsepower dyno run. Sport compact car explained in january that chrysler did their dyno testing and came up with the horsepower rating, based on a car with a heat-soaked intercooler. Sport compact car's dyno numbers showed higher because they had a fan running, and a mist of cool water on the intercooler.
I hope that clears things up, and the foolish bashing by opionated folks goes away.
See you in STX.

It all comes down to one thing. The impreza (WRX) is designed for power primarily,as you see in competition on a rally course, not in nascar, or on the drag strip. So they say the new neon os faster on the strip, try it in the Baja or any other rally course and you'll see the impreza beat it. It like comparing apples to oranges.

Now I understand that you may be a little angered by the way that Mopar Now! writes, but please understand, they embellesh their stories in terrible ways, and most neon enthusiasts do not like their publication. Personally, I read their articles and laugh because of the stupidity that they portray in their articles.
Believe it or not, neons are becoming more respectable. Although they still are not perfect, let us remember that the SRT-4 is in its first year, while the WRX has had a few more years to be refined. I understand your concern for another car that may be in some sort of contention in a sport-compact area, but understand that they are trying to expand their buyers market, and personally I think that they are off to a good start. Not everyone can go pick up a viper at their leisure, so they are trying to create something that more average people who are domestic-minded will go towards, while still keeping it within reason.
Now I'm not saying this car is perfect, the fastest, or the best car on the road. The neon and the SRT-4 are what they are. The neon is a compact car made for economy for the most part, but there is aftermarket support which can bring the cars to the next level like any other. The SRT-4 is supposed to be a more brute version that although in places is a little more unrefined in comparrison to other cars such as the WRX but makes up for it in the price tag.

Oh, and since it is a PVO car, the SRT-4 is going to be limited production every year.
Thank you for your time. :-)

sport compact car or car and driver (i think it was SCC) liked the interior better than the wrx. it was more refined.
the srt-4 rally car came in second in its class the first time out with new drivers. beating many wrx's in a higher class. now if a rally srt-4 can beat any wrx then i guess it isnt doing too bad in the dirt, now is it? dont believe me? do a search.
and the srt-4 gets from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and 5-60 in 5.5. with front wheel drive and no lsd. what does the wrx get again?
