Yeah I completely agree with you. Those were some of the downfalls of those great cars (production wise anyways).

Two points.
1) The reasone the RX7 went out of production were poor sales firstly, but MAJOR warranty issues. The warranties on the car cost Mazda a fortune.
2) The 3000 GT VR-4 is a heavy pig regards. The Skyline (R33) is also a AWD coupe but at about 3500 lbs, is about 300-400 lbs lighter than the VR-4. But the will laydown an *** whopping in the higher gears.

Fact is the 3 rdgen can be reliable but are picky at the same time. Very specific steps must be followed when modding or the end result is a blown engine. My car has had zero problems. It has been more reliable then my tercel. I did my research before modding and if i couldnt perform the work i would drive from CT to PA to a qualified rotary mechanic.
The moral of the story is...dont believe that crap u read about rotary reliability.

Car Info: 2002 Sooby WRX (not runing right)
I sold my 2002 WRX but I was geting the best results by shifting so the next gear started at 4000 rpm... also when downshifting you NEED to double-clutch downshift, or at the very least you should be reving the car up before puting it into a lower gear but if you dont double clutch, you will fry your sancros sooner... you will mess up your car if you dont, also if you want to get alittle bit more performance out of your car might I sugjest buying a few fuel bottles and filling up with racing fuel to keep in the garage, the WRX loves more octane another trick is a intercooler spray system.

Too bad putting more octane into a car that doesnt need it does jack **** and can actually hurt performance (retards burn speed).
Only worthwhile thing you mentioned was the IC spray, which is usefull in hot weather climates. Everything else you said was utter horse ****, please dont post if you dont know what you're saying lol

heh heh heh....yea some of the people posting on this sight are extremly experienced techs or knowledgable people. Others just post like they are.
If im going to refer to information posted on this sight, I would really appreciate it if dumb *** people who dont know what thier talking about would not post!
Double clutching is only usefull for OLD style transmissions with no sycros(or really ****ty ones). Or if you dont know how to rev match at ALL, then u might as well just double clutch to make things easy on yourself. But if your trying to rev match... switching gears with your foot completly off the gas...your doing it wrong.
as far as a 3000gt goes...nice car...but suby awd ownz =) btw....does anyone know exactly how much our drivetrain wieghs? WRX...or gc8 ? i know that our boxer engine transfers power VERRY EFFECIENTLY for an awd system...does anyone know exactly how much power is lost getting to the wheels? and compared the other awd systems?

Thanks for all in the info guys! I guess I don't feel so bad now. I had just came home that night and told the story to my roommate and he was like, "I can't believe you let a 3000GT take you!! I mean it's ONLY a V-6!!" Now I had always thought those cars were really fast, but of course I didn't have any real data to put up an argument. Let him try to talk smack again though!! LOL
