Spanked by a 3000GT
I am ashamed to admit it, but the other day on the freeway I got sooo spanked by this 3000GT (I think it was the VR-4 or whatever). Granted, I was unsure of the results of dropping it into 4th gear at a little over 100 miles an hour (I now know 4th tops out at 120 right?!), but I mean I seriously got spanked. (*sigh) So I was talking with someone about shifting, rpm's and such and realized how little I actually do know about maximizing the WRX's performance with the turbo and all. So I decided I really need to learn how to drive. I figured I need to go out in the middle of no where (I live in So CA so the middle of nowhere isn't far ) and just practice. Thing is, I kind of think it may be better if I don't practice in my car! Ultimately I would like to rent a WRX for this 'learning experience'. Anyone know if there are any places out there that rent out the Subaru? I mean I figure if worst comes to worst I could always just rent another high performance type car... Of course I hope I can find one that comes in a 5 speed.... What do you guys think??
Thanks in Advance,

Getting spanked by a 3000gt is nothing to be ashamed of. the WRX is great and all but there is cars that are alot faster.

i think you just need to spend some more time in your car, and learn the shift points better. and know when you really don't have any more juice. it all comes down to knowing your car very well. it takes time. i would say to practice in your car, that way you will know that car even better. learning basic driving skills in another car is not bad, but learning the limitations and such of a wrx will be better in your personal car. you tend be more comfortable in your car, and when you learn how it drives, and what it can and can't do it will make you a much better driver.
something else that will help is know the sound of your car. in my talon i can have power all the way through 7500, but it redlines at 7000. being able to know the general rpm without looking at the tach will make a huge difference. having spent a considerable amount of time learning my car, i can also tell what the rpms are at by knowing what gear i'm in and where the speedo is. it just takes practice.
so, stick with your car, don't do anything stupid, and get to know your Rex!

everyone always say aww but there sooOooo heavy... they are only heavy cause of the AWD, if you took that out it would weight the same as the supra and the Z. also there aftermarket is catching up with the Z and supra. so sooner you'll see the VR4 running 8's to more info go to www.3si.org

The problem with those cars were the same things that happened to the RX7, Supra, and 300zx..........price and weight. As the prices went up, so did the weight.
Lets hope that does not happen with the WRX.
