Snowboarding Racks In The Summer
Just a stupid question here, but do you guys with snowboard racks on your subie keep them on in the summer too, or do you take off the snowboarding attachments, or the whole rack together. Also, here is a picture of my car, could someone photochop the snowboarding attachments off, and also do a 2nd pic with the whole thing off???
Thanks,

I'm thinkin' I might just buy some bike racks that way I don't have to take off the whole rack cause it's a PITA to put back on and make sure that it's straight if you know what I mean.

I have the wagon, so it's a slightly different issue. The wagon has longitudinal rails, so the Thule snowboard racks only go from rail to rail rather than from window lip to window lip. It's a little easier to take them on and off, assuming you don't drop essential parts on the garage floor.
Having said that, I take my racks off unless I'm going back to the slopes within the next few days. I notice a difference in fuel economy with the rails on and off.
If I'm going up by myself or with one other, I'll just lay down the seats and throw the board in the back. Typically I take the racks as well... if the board is really messy on the way back, it rides outside. Again, a lot of this is for fuel economy... the slopes are 200 - 250 miles round trip.
I live in the mid-Atlantic (Delaware), so running around during the summer with snowboard racks would look... silly. If we actually had a spring season, it might be different.

Yeah that does make a difference. I live like 50minutes from the slopes so I don't gotta go too far. But I think I will just take 'em off for the summer and deal with them next winter.

We got a yakima yack where the whole thing attaches by clamping down under that lip above the window with like hook things. It only takes a minute to put the whole thing on or take it of, so we usually put it on the night b4 we head up the mtn or wanna take the bikes somewhere and just take it of when were done. Anyway, the cars filthy after we head up the mountain so you gotta take it of to get all the **** of the roof anyway lol.

my yakima racks take about 2 minutes to put on. and only 30 sec to take off, so i just only put them on when i use them. so the answer would be yes i remove them during the summer. and i do have a bike rack attachment as well and i do the same, just put it on when i need it

I have a yakima rack on my impreza (under the lip). I got mine when the 96' outback came out and Thule didn't make one, but in order to get the Yakima to work I had to remove the front factory horizontal bar.
ANyways, takes NO time to get the snowboard rack off and the 2 bike (stealheads) on.
