Snowboard rack
Hey Guys-
I need to get a rack for my snowboards. I have the Yakima snowboard/ski holders already from another car its just a matter of mounting them to the WRX. Would you say its better to get the cross bars for the roof rack (I have a wagon) from Yakima or the dealer/STI ones? Any help would be great... I am sure you some of you guys have gone through this before.

Probably a couple ways you can go here.
1.Subaru crossbars with subaru snowboard kit.
2.Subaru crossbars with Yakima adapter kit.
3.Yakima complete rack.
I am only speaking from my experience with Thuke racks. Yakima may be better or worse.
I have a complete Thule rack. Crossbars are square (more on this later) and tray is for a mountain bike. Rack is loud, really load. Taking the bike tray off does not help at all (square crossbars). Seems sturdier than the Subaru crossbars but it is much louder.
I also have the factory crossbars. Unfurtunetly Thule does not make a tray that mounts directly to the Subaru crossbars, this would be the ideal situation. I would think this combo would work best if Yakima does infact make a mounting kit for your snowboard tray and the subaru crossbars.
My WRX is stock, so the rack seems really loud. My friend has a complete Yakima rack on his wagon, but with the HKS Carbon exhaust I did not here the rack.
Maybe someone with a Yakima rack can shed some light on the noise.
Goodluck!

Yeah I didn't even think about different vendors making differnet shaped bars. Makes sence that the square bars make more noise. Maybe I need to look into what Yakima makes for the Subi racks (if anything) and go from there.
Thanks for the heads up!
Hope people can share more experiences with us on what they have learned.

I have had a Yakima rack for about 5 years now, and its pretty good. I have really no compaints, just don't like the locking system as much as Thule's but I heard they improved it..
I first started with the little clips that you add onto the factory rack (of wait, i have an outback imprexa, you mentioned you had a WRX.)..well regardless I would go for the full rack if you have the money. It is SO easy to go from snowboard/ski rack to bike..
Make sure you get the fairing to cut down wind nose..I think it's only like 60 bucks or something. I think Thule does make a rack for the WRX. Last I saw, theirs is much better looking, design-wise. ANd they make a Titanium looking rack!...well, good luck

I don't believe the fairing will work with the wagon, rails start a little to far behind the windshield to support the fairing. At least this was the case with the Thule rack. Actually I shouldn't say that, the thule will work but will sit on the paint instead of the windshield glass.
Hope this helps!
