Sales Tax?
I talked to a car dealer who is in another county than me and he says that you pay the sales tax on the car where you live, not where you buy it. What the hell? Is that correct?

hmm...
When I bought my car the sales tax is 7%. Where I live it is 6%. I PAID 6% sales tax on my car... I think where ever you are actually registered or live is the sales tax that you pay.. so if I were to buy a car in floridia.. as long as I live here in PA and in my county it's 6% then that is what I pay.. no matter if FL is 12%..etc

The sales tax gets paid at the registry if I remember correctly. And, if it is a used vehicle, you pay according to the book value that the registry has, not the final sale price.
For instance,
My wife and I bought her a car last year. We purchased it from friends who knew us, and struck a deal. It was worth 1500-1800, but we paid 1200. But we paid the sales tax at the registry at I believe 1900 give or take a few bucks. It doesn't matter where you live, but where you register the car.
Also on a side note,
In MA there is an old law on the books called a "use" tax. If you buy an item anywhere else, bring it home to MA, and use it, you have to pay a use tax of the difference if you could have bought that item in MA. So if you go to NH to buy that fridge/TV/ATV, and pay no tax on it, you are "supposed" to declare it on you yearly filing.
I know that they don't usually enforce it, until you have something big, like a boat you use in NH, then store at home in MA, they will enforce it.
Which makes me wonder why the State doesn't reimburse me 2% when I buy stuff in Maine at 7%,
Cheap !@#%#%
