Removing 22mm crank pulley bolt on Automatic
Okay.. I've searched and searched, and have only found information on how to do this with a 5-speed (put in 5th gear, step on brake... blah blah)
I have an automatic, and am tring to take my crank pulley off so I can install my new Perrin pulley. I went and got new bets and took everything apart. Now it's sitting there... dissassembled... with the old pulley still on.
I tried using a belt and vise-grips with various methods, all to no avail.
Does anyone else have any ideas or secrets they're holding back? Possibly using the 4 small holes in the pulley body?
I'm in a bind, as most people have 5-speeds and use a different method.
Because there is no 'Automatic Transmission' forum, I decided to post this here. If any moderator feels this would get more views/responses or belongs elsewhere- please move this thread.
Thank you for any input. I'm without a running car until I get this FARKIN bolt off!

There's a small cover on the bellhousing on the top passenger side that you can take off, once you take that off you can shove a pry bar into the hole and rotate the crank bolt (with a 22mm socket on a breaker bar) until the pry bar gets jammed, them pull harder and it will come right off, install is the reverse.

Here's how I did it on a '00 RS:
Remove fans from radiator
Slip socket over crank bolt
Slip a 3' pipe over the breaker bar
Disconnect all the spark plug wires
Have someone hold the pipe, leaning up against a piece of wood on the fender lip
Tap the starter - and I mean TAP!!!!! - just for a millisecond or two
Repeat until starter breaks the bolt for you
Remove bolt.
Personally I use air tools now, but that requires removing the radiator in your case.
Good luck - use proper safety gear and lots of uncommon sense!

I usually use those 4 holes on the pulley. You can make your own but it'd probably be not worth it. You'll need a thick metal plate and 4 bolts that fit through the holes a little less than snug and bolt them securely. ANd then you'll need to drill a hole in middle of all the bolt area in order to fit the 22mm socket in.

Don't do it! Crank pulley = worst modification ever. Seriously, it caused me nothing but problems!! (Including squeeky belts all the damn time, and a leaking water pump!!!). Worst mod I've ever done... by far! I took that POS off and sold it for like $25.

I installed a perrin lightweight (not underdrive), and got new alt/power steering/AC belts at the same time. If anything, it seems like my engine is running smoother and quieter, in addition to the power gains.
You may say its the worst mod, but so far, It's been the best bang-for-buck power mod I've done (on my lame *** N/A 2.2).
I guess to each his own... but I've only heard of good results from lightweight pullies (not underdriven)
