Oil change after breakin
I went through the break in and just gave it a new oil change but I put in 10w-30 instead of 5w-30. I live in Mass. so it's pretty cold here! Did I do anything wrong, or will it be ok?
Help!
Also-when should I start using synthetic?

IMO synthetic isn't worth the trouble. You still have to change it. you're going longer with potentially dirty oil circulating in your engine. Why not just change good quality motor oil a bit more frequently? This way you've got clean oil running more of the time.

i don't run my mobil1 any longer than normal oil. i don't think people should run it like 5k or anything like that. i go about 3000-3500. it made a big difference in my engine (4g63) by taking away a lifter tick. and it doesn't break down as quickly as regular, so even though it looks like pooop when it comes out after 3500, it still protecting the engine the way it should. go to wal mart and a 5 qt. jug is only like $18. worth it imo.

oil change
x1 (or anyone else with info),
you mentioned letting the engine seat and running regular oil until about 12k. the guy who sold me my wrx changed the oil at 3500 miles with mobil 1 synth. should i go back to regular oil to help the "seating" before going back to synthetic? or is it alright to continue with my next change w/ mobil 1?
also, please explain the break in process with regular oil.
thanks,
leo

well the idea behind using normal oil first is to let the many seals in the engine get conditioned. seals leak two times, when they are brand new, and when they are old. however, if they leak when they are new, they will usually stop once they properly seated. its pretty much just a precaution to use reg. oil and wait for synth. but i wouldn't worry about it. i am sure nothing will happen b/c it had mobil1 at 3500.
