Need Advice- Short Shifter for 96' Impreza
I haven't been on here in a while so I don't know where to post this..perhaps someone can help out an old member.
It looks like I am goign to have to keep the ol' Suby for at least another year, so I thought I would add a few items, if they are available. Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area.
1.) a short shifter because I find the stock shifter too high up. I would like it closer to the floor so I can rest my hand on it....more comfortable.
2.) A better air-intake that would also give me a few extra hp's.
3.) Anything else (hopefully inexpensive) you might recommend.
Thanks in advance.

1. Kartboy shortshifter w/ bushings
2. I'd say leave it stock, instead put a high performance filter like K&N or Green Filter (I heard good stuff about the Green)
3. Cobb Accessport for $500+ or some sort of reflash to unleash more potential of your car.

Stay away from air intakes of all sorts, your maf isn't able to handle them. Do a snorkleectomey instead (remove intake scilencer.) Add shifter bushings both the front and the rears, as they are inexpenive and will help a lot.

The Kartboy won't fit a '96, it's for '97-up.
If all you want is a shorter lever you could always cut it down, although the pivot point won't change so it won't truly be a short throw.
The Subaru 5-speed short throw shifter, which consists of the lever plus the entire linkage, will fit. You can look around for used ones, they are sometimes for sale in the classifieds here or at NASIOC. Note however that the lever height with this shifter is still the same (unless the stock lever height on a '96 is higher than later years). Also a Kartboy lever can then be used with the Subaru short throw for about a 1" height reduction, you'd need the lever made for the '97-'01.
