Question need advice: new owner 2004 WRX

Hi there I just bought a 2004 WRX from an insurance auction... it was stolen so no damage to the vehicle but it has 110,000 miles on it and i can only assume it was a daily driver. because of the high mileage Im concerned that things will start to fail after some time in the canyons of socal. Can i trust the engine now? if so for how long? and if not... what can I do to ensure that it is a daily driver for me but also can rip the canyons and maintain reliability?

can't really tell you how much longer it will last since an engine can go at anytime, but there is a member on this forum who has gone through 200k miles with fairly minor issues.

I would take it to a Subaru mechanic and get it checked out to see the engine's condition

without taking it to someone and having to pay them for diagnosing my car... anything particular to the '04 or the WRX in general that could save me time and money down the line would be awesome... or any parts that should be changed just due to high mileage?

You need to take it to someone and have it looked at. You just bought a car, why go cheap now? For all you know, the previous owner could have put transmission fluid in the radiator and brake fluid in the crankcase. HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. At the very least, your timing belt needs to be replaced (if it has not) and you are probably looking at CV boots, motor mounts and more -- but you won't know until someone pokes around the car a bit.

for sure... my plan is\was to get a Greddy timing belt, and have a pretty thorough flush of fluids - diff. fluid change coolant flush oil and new filter

I am just not sure what else after that many miles needs to be done... I am a little skeptical to bring my car even to a certified scooby mech or the dealer and saying find me whats wrong with the car and what needs to be replaced. I am worried about getting ripped off is all so any input from here would be greatly appreciated

Do not do any flushes at all. REPLACE coolant, but do not let anyone do a chemical flush. I have seen several articles in the last year which suggested that the chemical flushes done by Jiffy Lube etc. are much more harmful than good.

The only way to avoid getting ripped off is to know if the mechanic is a jerk or not. If you don't know any mechanics, and yet you are buying a car with 200k miles on the clock, you WILL know a mechanic sometime in the future, if you see what I mean.

you should try to attempt to tune-up your engine yourself PREFERABLY with someone who has knowledge on cars. i'm not saying you don't, it's just advice.

change just the simple stuff for now like all the fluids and oils and spark plugs. also put your car on a carlift and look at everything, bushings and all.

you should buy the tech manuals from subaru or you can get the .pdf files off ebay but for me i'd rather have the book in my hand.
