To clarify my comment on the accords, the WRX certainly appears more "rice friendly" to me in stock form. The accord has no hood scoops, no spoilers, huge fog lights, etc. Many people put them on, but as delivered from the dealer, the car appears clean, and sleek.
I'm strongly considering picking up a WRX in the following weeks, but it's styling and what other people associate them with is not one of the car's strong points in my honest opinion.

cupholders and crap...
I like the cupholder. The biggest big gulp wont get in the way of my shifts. Maybe I'll have some concern about it when I throw down coin on a nice head unit and my Mountain Dew is dripping into my stereo, but for now I'm happy with it. I give it about 4 years till it snaps off.
Why not pick up a used Accord V6 auto? You could easily pick up the last body style for $12-15k.

It's a personal choice. I would suggest the accord over the wrx if you're going with an auto. I also think the accord has a nicer look to it, stock. Again that's my opinion.
I would also consider a used one. I have owned a 98 model purchased new until a few months ago, it has been trouble free for the most part.

my vote is for the auto rex since i got one
If u mash the gas in the auto rex it will bog down and lag will kill you. If you feed it properly its plenty peppy fo r me and i impress my friend all the time in it. I got the auto because of the wife but i luv my car alot. I did the silencer mod and kand n air filter and just bought a used axle back turbo xs on i club. When iam on the highway this car will accelerate on an on ramp doing a 100mph easy. Trust me it may not be stick but it is still one kick *** ride.
hope this helps

I was doing a bit of house cleaning today, and I found plenty of back issues of Automobile, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and Road & Track, all of them having many articles about their driving experiences with the WRX not just in road tests but in long-term tests as well.
Even though every WRX that was involved was a 5-speed, some used a sedan and some used a wagon. Every car magazine said that throughout their year-long tests, they had no mechanical or reliability problems or anything. Their problems weren't really related to faults: Road & Track needed to replace the driver-side door locking mechanism (because someone used a slim jim on the car and tried to jack it) as well as the windshield (because a rock hit it or something). Their only complaints were things like how really tall drivers might have trouble moving the seat far back enough (since it can only go so far) and stuff like how they only get to keep the car for a year.
So based on one-year tests, the WRX is built to last. And Automobile magazine even admitted to treating it much worse than typical cars, yet it took all the abuse and then some.

iam 6'2-6'3
with the seat all the way back and tilt steering up i have no problems. I have tried to get into some other imports before and had troubles. Not with the rex. I does significantly cut down room in back for occupants with seat all the way back but my kids are small thank god. Ne ways you madea good choice. I was watching car and drivers top 10 on tv on tnn and both the accord and wrx made the top 10 list. But you'll luv the wrx. I know i love mine and have auto. LIke i posted before the low end is a little bit too laggish for me but i heard a torque converter and changing the upipe with help with the lag. If you feed the turbo properly it will go fine and on the highways it kicks major ****. I have done the silencer mod, dropped a k and n panel filter in, and i just bought a turbo xs axleback which hasnt arrivedyet. Im piecing it together little ata time. You will have fun with the car even if its a n auto. The cars that i have had up to this point have all increased in power so this i s by far the fastest i have owned. From a escort lx, to pontiac grandam gt to the rex. I have driven an aut o matic saab 900 turbo once and that was fun to drive. God luck on your purchase.

dont get the 4eat!!
I got the auto in a 02 WRX wagon. It was the worst automotive decision I have ever made. My wife kept insisting that we get the 4eat because of the traffic around here. I took the test drive on a road without corners that were sharp enough to feel the need for a manual, etc. I guess that I was just mesmerized by the wild accelleration from the turbo when it is hopped on. Not until I had driven on roads that I used to drive my old 5spd on, and trying to take other cars from stop lights did I realize what a stupid decision I made. Most auto four cylinder cars will embarrass an auto WRX 40' off the line, as well as a 5spd Hyundai Accent. That is a fact. I will say that I've had absolutely no problems in the 20K miles I driven it and on the highway, it is ridiculously fast. Also it is incredible in the snow. IMO, Get the Accord or another v6 if you need the auto.
