manual or auto in the city??
First off, I'd like to say hi to everyone...I come from clublexus.com but the darn Lexus broke down on me so I'm in for an Impreza 2.5RS, 2003.
I live in L.A. where there's lots of traffic...too much, but that doesn't mean there's never opportunities for open road driving. If I get the manual, it'll be my first manual car. I know it's a matter of personal choice, but since I'm new with Subarus, I was just trying to gauge the general consensus out there bout which to go with. Also, the brochure didn't have many performance specs...between the auto and manual, which is faster and by how much (0-60)?
and any other advice for someone getting a 2.5RS in white is appreciated.
thanks guys.

why do they make automatics?
as a general rule of thumb, stick = control
with a normal front or rear wheel drive vehicle a stick equals complete control of the tires. at a stop if u rev up the car a little to much, and let off the clutch; clutch will clamp and u will light up the tires(slowing you down).
As with a subaru, u have all wheel drive. now if your at a stop ,rev up the car a little to much and let off the clutch, your car will launch forward at almost as good of a launch as if you perfectly rev matched. instead of spinning up your tires, you will burn down your clutch.
If you like to launch your car u NEED a stick. you will completly destroy your automatic after a while. torque converters are weak and u only get 4 gears. I wont even go into aftermarket clutches and stuff (a must if you like to launch your car and powershift).
now as far as living in a major city is conserned, I live near and travel through boston(can u say rush hour?) all the time. Even with my ACT pro street clutch(much harder pedal feel and faster clamping) i dont really have a problem driving a stick. it might get a little bit anoying after 2 hours of bumper to bumper, but once u get in that straight away it all becomes worth it!
all I can say to you is, loose the auto and grab a stick ... you will never go back once u learn.

ahh I hate driving through boston with my manual.... my calves start to burn after half an hour of stop-go stop-go.
I'd say you should get your hands on a manual car and drive it around for a week or so and then make your decision because it can be a real pain in the *** when stuck in traffic.
