looking to buy 06-07 sti few questions

Am I doomed to have that blue on the carpet and seats?

Does anyone notice a difference between the drive by wire and the throttle cable of the previous version of the sti?

Thanks everyone

carpet is blue so nothing you can do there
unless the user swapped it out
DBW throttle is different but you'll get used to it
if you buy an 07 get it compression/leak down tested as these are known to have bad factory tunes
if it's modified , make sure it was protuned, no OTS maps
good luck hunting

You can get a Limited with leather to avoid the blue, but its heavier, has a sunroof, and no big wing. Otherwise, you can swap with a WRX black interior.

You will notice the DBW vs cable, but one you get a tune in it, that seems to go away, and it is very responsive. 07 has a slightly different turbo with a bit more TQ capacity when tuned. If modified, check it over well. OTS tuner can be fine if conservative and done by a quality person. I had a very good one in mine that turned p almost optimal when a protuner checked it on the dyno. It is a risk though as there are plenty of crappy ones. Protuners are not always perfect either.

do the 04-05's use a cable instead of the electronics?
I wish they had the 2.5 setup in the sti back in the days of the 03 wrx.
That would be the best setup I think. ah well great cars all still

Does anyone on this forum use a backfire system? I realize these days when not using a bov you don't tend to loose boost as bad as say my old 240sx with an sr20det.

Other then a subaru I am at a loss as what car to buy. *shrug*

I think they went to DBW in 05, but not 100 percent. What do you mean by a backfire system? There is not much difference here in setup vs an SR. Both use a recirc valve, and both suffer from boost taper at redline

I found that cars101.com has a lot of great info about the specs of various years on these cars.

Right now I am trying to find a place where you can buy one of the trannys with a sequential shifter (like they use in the rallies now shift pattern)

I know you can buy some awesome gear sets from http://www.rallispec.com/prod_trans.htm

But still yet to find sequential.

Does anyone have a link to a comparison between the 06 and 07 sti trannys?
I know one has shorter gearing I would like to know driving characteristics etc.

I watched a video or 2 on youtube and it looks like the 07 drops close to 1500 rpm between say 2-3rd (may have been 4-5th) most close ratio gear boxes don't drop more then 1000 between shifts.

My s2000 drops no more then 6-700 rpm and its close ratio.
