There a few different kinds of designs, but they all do the same thing. If I were to go back in time, I would have bought a used turboback and saved some $$

So I could get the whole TB system w/out the exhaust portion and buy a different exhaust to go with it?

Are you trying to say the AP is compatible with any turboback? If so, yes.

I think what he's trying to say, is can you buy one downpipe and use a different cat-back instead of buying a whole turbo-back from the same manufacturer.
The answer is yes, but you'd be looking to buy a downpipe (one that replaces the stock downpipe and midpipe) and a cat-back.
Some people say that if you buy a full TBE from one manufacturer it'll make better gains than if you piece one together from different companies because they are designed to flow well together, but I'm not completely sold on that. I think you can piece it together and still have good flow and hp. Many people go with a Helix UP/DP and any CB and are very successful.
If you want a specific look/sound that only one CB can give, I say get that CB and get the DP somewhere else.

plus, usually you'll save $$ for buying them together. but VR is right you can get good flow by peicing different parts. make sure they line up..
as far as the ecu knows...a pipe is a pipe, as long as they're the same size.

Sorry, I didnt think I explained myself correctly.
But you answered my question. I was just making sure that i could buy a downpipe, uppipe, and mid from one manufacturer and buy an exhaust from another. I checked out the COBB TBE and i didnt like the look of the exhaust that came with it.

If you upgrade your turbo, than a FMIC is typically the way to go. In general it will provide more cooling than a TMIC, but it also creates more turbo lag. So there's a compromise. With a stock turbo, there is no need for a FMIC. Many people upgrade the WRX to an STi TMIC to improve cooling of the charge air.

I don't really know exactly how the STi sprayer works, but I think it would be more work than it's worth. You would need a remote water reservoir somewhere, with tubes leading from that to the IC, and some sort of switch inside the cockpit to enable it. For the small benefit you get out if it, I doubt if it's worth it.
Maybe someone else who has more knowledge about this stuff can chime in and help???

Now, you can relocate your windshield wiper sprayers....but then you cant clean the window without getting out of the car! Thats a big downside for me, I always spray the windshield, like when taking trips to the snow. It would be a huge pita to get out in a blizzard to wipe the damn window.
