I'm a Pos
After owning my 2003 wrx for a month now.. my 1st gear still isnt smooth...i'm not going to whine about the clutch being heavy... but i would like to say that.. after driving my friends' honda prelude and RSX type-S....I found the wrx to be harder..
Honda's clutch is so easy its like a toy compared to the wrx.

I agree, Subaru transmissions are notchy, that's just how they're built. There are some things you can do to improve the smoothness, including a short throw shifter, harder shifter bushings, and after the transmission has broken in (some people say this doesn't happen until 10K miles, I dunno about that), switch to a synthetic gear oil like Redline. Time alone should also improve things as the transmission breaks in, but don't beat on it and don't force gears. You still shouldn't expect it to be as nice as a Honda transmission (not that many out there are), but it should move a bit better.

Personally, I hate the RSX type S. That tranny was way to soft. I had a hard time finding the engagement point. It felt boring, not very sporty at all. Granted its a pretty nice car but the dealer also wanted $28,900 for the thing and that was before tax/title/lisence/etc.

And that can be their rally cry when you spank their asses on the track.

Hmmmm
I love the WRX's clutch and shifter. It feels awesome IMHO.
I've driven civics before and while they are easy to drive they're not nearly as much fun as the WRX.
I too have an '03 WRX and I have had no issues w/it so far. This is my personal favorite car I've ever driven.

Older audi A4 clutches are stiff, the porsche clutcher arent oo bad at all in my opinion...I have an ACT clutch and that thing is really stiff, the audi feels like a marshmallow compared to it. Ive never driven a honda to compare though.
Yes, suby trannies are twitchy, its fun to see other people drive my car (not really, it makes me cringe).
I think Ill get redline synth fluid for my tranny, what kind of difference does it make?
